You can extend with a letter from your embassy showing at least 65000 baht/month income from outside of Thailand. Most immigration offices only require the letter, but some have recently been requiring proof of where the funds came from other than the letter. You do not have to have a bank letter.

Well, not all consulates want to play policeman to enforce Thai rules and, instead, rely on their citizens not to sign false statements. Thai Immigration knows which consulates refuse to play their game and are a little more viligant about asking for "proof". So far, I've only heard of one real request for "proof" in Chiang Mai and that was for someone doing a marriage extension. Not aware of any problem with retirement extensions, although they do sometimes make small talk that could be a disguised way of asking for proof. Questions like: so want is your source of income, how do you spend your time in Chiang Mai, how do you support yourself since you haven't touched your 800,000 baht deposit for three years, etc. In every case I know of, they've stopped the line of questioning once supplied with a reasonable answer and they don't even want to look at any paperwork that is waved in front of them. (It's not like they have an overwhelming curiousity to figure out a U.S. income tax return!)

If you are a US citizen you do not have to show anything!. It is a swarn notarized statement ! No proof is neessary!

The post is about getting an extension to stay from immigration inside Thailand, not a O-A visa at a Consulate outside Thailand.

It is correct that you do not have to show any proof to the consulate, but there has been the occasional report that an immigration office asked for such proof in addition to the affidavit on which the consulate authenticated the applicant's signature.

I think that is exactly what I said in post #2!
