Thida elected to lead the red shirts

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The red shirts on Wednesday cast an unanimous vote to elect Thida Thawornseth as their leaders, installing her as chairwoman after working in the caretaker capacity since 2010.

"The race was uncontested and the vote was unanimous," Pheu Thai MP Wiphuthalaeng Phattanaphuthai said.

In her acceptance speech, Thida said she welcomed the opportunity to serve her fellow reds.

"I admit there is still a conflict within the movement but all core leaders are committed to the struggle," she said.

She said she would overcome past flaws in order to continue and strengthen the struggle for democracy. She also pledged to improve the structure of the reds movement at the regional level.

Last week the red shirts organised a meeting to chart their course of activities, including the push for amending the charter. There were talks about leadership change and Thida indicated she would not cling to her position.

Certain factions in the movement voiced support for Pheu Thai MP Apiwan Wiriyachai to lead the red shirts. But he did not join the race.

Who voted for her?

The red shirts on Wednesday cast an unanimous vote to elect Thida Thawornseth as their leaders

Shouldn't this be "[some] UDD members unanimously voted for Ms. Thida T. as chairperson to lead the UDD" ?

Red democracy in action and their goal for the entire country

If she, and her reds / udd want to be taken seriously, the first thing she / they should do is publish a clear picture:

- Their structure, and office holders, etc.

- Their definition of democracy and what they will do, in a structured logical way to achieve quality democracy ( a detailed document please ).

- Their definition of what equal justice means and what they will do in a structured logical way, to achieve i (a detailed document please ).

- Their strategies to reduce the income gap.

- Their policies about education.

- Their finances.

etc.

I'm not holding my breath.

"I admit there is still a conflict within the movement but all core leaders are committed to the struggle," she said.

Committed to internal fighting?

Who cares? Honestly.

They had their chance and they blew it. Now they are just beating a dead horse.

On one hand I agree.

On the other hand, I suspect they could easily be puller together for more protests, the Dubai warchest is probably still pretty healthy, and their no scrupples rabble rouser leaders can easily get them stirred up, with lies and mistruths if needed.

First step for Thida is to change the name of her organisation. Otherwise she will be blamed not to fight the government.

I take it they don't consider the P T to be democratic and will continue the struggle.

I wonder if they are going to take to the streets again and try to burn Bangkok down?

Have they told their real boss that they don't think his clone sister is being democratic?

BANGKOK: -- Members of the red-shirt movement unanimously elected Thida Thawornseth, who has been working in a caretaker capacity since 2010, as their leader yesterday.

Kwanchai's remarks unacceptable: reds spokesman

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Leaders of the red-shirt movement on Thursday picked a quarrel with one another in the wake of the Wednesday's vote to install Thida Thawornseth as their chairwoman.

Two key leaders, Kwanchai Praipana and Chinnawat Haboonpad, were critical of the vote for Thida, arguing that they and other leaders at the regional level were left out of the voting proce

"Everything was fixed because southerners would elect their fellow southerner," Kwanchai said in reference to Thida's southern hometown.

Reds spokesman Pipatchai Paiboon countered that Kwanchai had made unacceptable slur.

Of the 30 leaders casting votes for Thida, six were from the South, Pipatchai said.

The six are Jatuporn Promphan, Kokaew Pikulthong, Worachai Hema, Worawuth Wichaidit, Yoswaris Chuklom and Pipatchai.

Pipatchai said Kwanchai should not have made unfair criticism against southerners in the movement, reminding him that it was southerners like Natthawut Saikua who helped him overcoming his legal issues and Thida who took care of him while being remanded.

Personally I think TrotskiKwanchai should be expelled and banned. We, leaders of this great party, should show unity in the face of our struggle for Democracy mad.gif

What I find interesting about this "Red Shirt Leader" is that on the very same day her Red Shirts were being sentenced to long stretches in prison for burning down their Isaan Provincial Halls, which of course the should have, Khun Thida was at Potjaman's trial in Bangkok lending her support for that avaricious pig's crimes against Thailand.

You don't get to the head of the table by sucking up to the riff-raff.

Alright, so it was this 30 Red Shirt leaders voting for Thida, that's a start. Where this 30 leaders elected by the grassroots?

I'm asking because for all the "Democracy! rah rah!" from the Red Shirt hoi polloi I still haven't seen any leader getting their position by popular vote.

What I find interesting about this "Red Shirt Leader" is that on the very same day her Red Shirts were being sentenced to long stretches in prison for burning down their Isaan Provincial Halls, which of course the should have, Khun Thida was at Potjaman's trial in Bangkok lending her support for that avaricious pig's crimes against Thailand.

good word that.... avaricious

excessively acquisitive especially in seeking to hoard riches

I'm surprised her pic isn't on the textbook definition
