Hello,

I am working in Thailand under a American passport. I have a visa Non B with work permit. I have had this Non B with work permit for the past 4 yrs already.

I am a dual national so I also have a German passport as well.

I will applying for a personal bank loan in Germany in the next comming months, but the bank has told me that I need to be employed under German citizenship while in Thailand to qualify for this loan.

How can I switch my passports and still keep the work permit I have active. Is this possible? Do I have to leave the country ? Where can I go to get this taken care of ? ( Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia).

A new invitaion letter from my company is no problem.

What would you all recommend?

Thank You for your input

Suspect you will have to start with a non immigrant B visa in that passport and then obtain work permit/extend using it. Do not believe any transfer can be made. Most Consulates will want a work permit application receipt and full company paperwork as outlined on MFA website. A company letter does not obtain a visa in the local area AFAIK.

http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2492

- Passport or travel document with validity of not less than 6 months.

- Completed visa application form.

- Recent passport-sized photograph (4 x 6 cm) of the applicant taken within the past 6 months.

- Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family).

- Letter of approval from the Ministry of Labour. To obtain this letter, the applicant’s prospective employer in Thailand is required to submit Form WP3 at the Office of Foreign Workers Administration, Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour Tel. 02-2452745, or at the Provincial Employment Office in his or her respective province. More information is available at www.doe.go.th/workpermit/index.html

- Copy of Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Labour and alien income tax or Por Ngor Dor 91 (only in the case where applicant has previously worked in Thailand).

- Corporate documents of hiring company in Thailand such as:

1) business registration and business license

2) list of shareholders

3) company profile

4) details of business operation

5) list of foreign workers stating names, nationalities and positions

6) map indicating location of the company

7) balance sheet, statement of Income Tax and Business Tax (Por Ngor Dor 50 and Por Ngor Dor 30 of the latest year)

8) value-added tax registration (Por Por 20)

- Document indicating the number of foreign tourists (for tourism business only), or document indicating export transactions issued by banks (for export business only).

Would you say I could get an entry and exit stamp in my German passport in Cambodia? Keep in mind I have never used my German passport and it has all blank pages. Will this be ok even though I’m exiting Thailand on my American passport ?

When entering on my German passport, will they not be looking for a exit stamp ?

Could I do my Non B in Cambodia as well ?

I also heard that I need to fly to Hong Kong, Malaysia, or Singapore when making a Non B.

Thank you so much for your advise.

To make a passport change will require air travel. Enter other country with German passport and obtain visa and then return using it.

Do contact the labour office to see if you need to change anything regarding your work pemit.

Especially when the names in your two passports don't match, you might need to aply for a change to your work permit.

Thank you very much. The names on the passport are the same. I'm just trying to figure out what would be the easiest and most cost effective way of getting this done. Do you think they will be able to transfer my work permit to my new passport ? It would nice if I didn’t have to cancel it and then have to make another.

I've heard the Thai Embassy in Vietnanne Laos gives tourist visas for 6 months, for a fee of Baht 2000. 30 day border runs are necessary but I'm told by a guy who does it that over 12 months he gets two 6 month Tourist Visas and that the Thai Embassy in Vietnanne is full every day of farang doing this. I'm told it's the only Thai Embassy that does this. Anyone know anything about this. I'm checking the Thai Foreign Ministry Visa pages to see if the Thai government is being up front about this in Laos, or even if it's true.

Anybody know?

In that case I'm not sure anything need to change on the work permit. Better inquire at the labour office itself.

That is off topic as this thread is about something else.

Please start your own topic.

Your post has nothing to do with the subject of dual passports. Yes two entry tourist visas are available in Vientiane if there are not already a number in your passport. It is not the only Consulate to issue two entry tourist visas.
