manarak
For a long time, the Opal House Restaurant on the corner of Jomtien beach road and soi 7 was one of my top favorites. The dishes were good and relatively inexpensive, plus the restaurant had free wifi! yay! Their "mistake" in the past was that the restaurant was hidden from view from the street by plants and sunshades, which probably attracted less customers. During the last 6 or 8 months, the place has been revamped, and it certainly looks more inviting. But the cooking style has changed. It is still good, but not as good as before. The dishes now appear to be made quicker, and the ingredients also seem different. Today, I got a tom yam gung - the number of prawns was ok (about 10 or 12) - but it clearly was ware that had been frozen. With the hundreds of fisherboats out at night one has to wonder why they use frozen prawns. I wonder if there has been some cost trimming in the kitchen. Prices also have gone up, but just a little. It is still good value for the money, I still recommend Opal House. Edited February 17, 2012 by manarak
