Real Time Traffice Updates

Has anyone else found that the traffic information has not been displayed on their GPS.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 3770 and for approx. the last week it has not bee displaying the traffic info.

Has anybody else had this problem? Or should I have my machine checked out?

Thanks

Sorry I can't help with your question but I was surprised by your post as I wasn't aware that Traffic Avoidance was available in BKK. After reading your post I did some googling and indeed it seems that it is now supported. Thanks for the heads up.

I have used various Garmin units in Thailand for several years but have never taken any notice of the Traffic Avoidance feature assuming that it didn't work here. It has just occurred to me that though my current unit (1490) has the feature, the actual receiver is in the original power cable which I changed because it is a bit bulky to wind around the steering column. I'll change it back & am looking forward to trying it out.

My question is this. How well does it really work in BKK? I mean how reliable & up to date is the traffic info? Though the Thai map is improving with each version, it is still pretty hit & miss compared to some other country maps. Therefore I can't help but be a bit sceptical about a relatively sophisticated function like Traffic Avoidance which I guess is only as good as the info it receives.

I would really appreciate hearing about you experiences - at least prior to last week.

BTW, has TA started working again?

Just got a Garmin myself and wondering whether it is worth paying for the extra FM receiver that enables traffic assist. In some ways Bangkok would be a perfect place to have this function what with all the traffic jams... on the other hand, because the jams are usually everywhere, not really like it will be able to take you on a traffic free route... plus is it actually accurate?

Anyone with experience?

I just gone back to bangkok after three months away and my traffic information is not working either.

Maybe this helps ??

Note: Don't overwrite the Firmware for a Garmin GPS bought in Thailand with the standard English One, for the Thai Firmware you can contact GPS Society or register your device there and then you can download the new Firmware (if available)

Contact GPS Society Here: http://www.gpssociet...wheretobuy.aspx

Register your Garmin device here: http://www.gpssociet...mber_Login.aspx

Note 2:

Warning about upgrading the Thai Garmin GPS Firmware:

If you are using Firmware version 1.0.1 and there is a newer version 1.0.3 then you also have to install version 1.0.2, so you can't go from version 1.0.1 directly to version 1.0.3 !!! (Numbers used as Example)

Hard to imagine it could actually work in BKK or anywhere in LOS.

The traffic information has not been working for months, even the the latest firmware.. It was good when it worked

How about using Garmin Smartphone Link to receive traffic.

But I believe it only works with the 2013 model GPS Garmin Devices.

Anyone using it already in Thailand?

Traffic is working on my Garmin Nüvi. I don't find it to be very accurate or current, though. For much better traffic information which is also crowdsourced, have a look at Longdo Traffic if you have an iOS or Android phone. The app also displays updated traffic cams. When you use the app, you also contribute to the traffic maps. Longdo traffic covers all of Thailand, but only so long as there is another user using it and updating the maps.
