Yingluck govt 'delayed release of valuation': Democrat

BANGKOK -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday dismissed claims of a conflict of interest arising from her private meeting with a group of real estate developers, including Sansiri president Srettha Thavisin.

"I confirm there was no conflict of interest nor any personal affairs," she said.

Yingluck said the February 8 meeting took place in a transparent manner and was not a clandestine incident, as alleged.

She urged all sides to view the incident without an ulterior motive to smear her.

Democrat Party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said news reports were proof of a conflict of interest.

According to the reports, Srettha and six to seven businessmen met the PM to air their views on city zoning and land valuation, he said. "This is the proof for policy corruption and conflict of interest involving PM Yingluck."

Yingluck was a developer linked to SC Asset before entering politics. And a company representative was listed among those at the meeting.

The Democrat spokesman said the Treasury Department and the Interior Ministry had suspiciously delayed the release of land valuation in Bangkok, which was previously scheduled for late last year. And city zoning was postponed for a year.

Because of the suspicious delay, the government lost about Bt6 billion in property tax that it would otherwise have gained if the valuation had been updated, he said.

He also voiced suspicion on whether the prime minister told the developers which areas were designated to be floodways, which could fuel land speculation.

Bangkok Democrat MP Chanin Rungsaeng, a member of the House committee on economic development, said the panel would call on Yingluck to give a statement next week. Then Srettha and six to seven businessmen who met the PM would meet the panel after her.

The meeting was so "transparent" that it was impossible to see, and took quite a bit of scrutiny for its true nature to be discovered, if this has actually happened yet.

Was it pre-announced in any manner, or logged afterwards as PMs activities normally are.

Afaik she skipped the House meeting without giving any reason to attend this business lunch.

If there's a choice to attend those boring Parliament sessions and have lunch while discussing real estate development off the record - it's really a no brainer. Shinawatra companies do not grow by themselves or on the trees.

Yep, nothing suspicious at all going on in secretive meetings....

As we all know, Thais never lie, especially when face is involved.
