I used to live in Glasgow, worst place in the world ever. Cold and wet all the time.

All there was to do was drink yourself unconscious and have sex with cheap skanky hos.

Errrr ...... just realised, sounds just like Thailand (apart form the weather)........... goddammit, I must be missing Glasgow!

I ilke the idea of two forums, one for Brits in Thailand and one for Brits outside, actually, the same could be said for any and all nationalities although Brits closely followed by the Americans seem to be the biggest offenders of people stating fiction as fact when it comes to all things Thai.

Look if it wasn't for the Brit rants this wouldn't be much of a forum, we know so much about humour & comedy.

Only yesterday a Brit commented that he came to Thailand for "career development"

It don't get any better than that!

That was me. I moved from a job as head of Australia role in Sydney, to a role based in BKK as head of Asia.

What's your point?

Having spent the last two and a half years back in the UK I was delighted to see how well the immigrant population had integrated itself.

Within weeks of arriving, previously hardworking immigrants had gone on the dole, developed an inflated sense of entitlement, moved to a diet based on chips, kebabs and Monster Munch, and spent their days on the sofa watching daytime tv and getting obese.

Rather like their hosts.

It was a joy to behold (as I headed towards Heathrow, exit stage left, permanently).

I think that the most complaints from former UK citizens are about how they perceive how the country they were born in, grew up in has changed. Society changes, I dont like how things have changed I seemed to have a become a 2nd class citizen in my own country have to fit in with all and sundry rather than the other way round.

Racialsim now there is another twicther is it not. Racialism is actually almost always directed at white people if you think about it. Anyone can be accused of racialism but it almost is directed at white people. You can have black organisations and thats ok but you have a white organisation and all hell breaks loose.

Take a look around and wonder why and how we have got to this situation. I have lots of friends who are non white by the way and am just making an observation and some are very good folk too, the Racialism card is always there in the back pocket to be played if you look like losing.

Now MR BLETHER I know you are ex military and that you have worked and fought(?) with non whites and you have to depend on each other that I understand and am grateful that you and they do that for us all but as in everything in the world is one side of the coin, the good side on the other is the one who is always using the 'R' card to gain an advantage they should not have because they dont deserve it. So we end up with ethnic minorities is positions where they are oput of there depth and are there as a token which is wrong, the best people should be there, I could go on but my coffee is getting cold.

Although I hold a British passport I regard myself as English being I was born and bred in Manchester ,same as the Scots and Welsh regard themselves as born and bred in their respective (dare I say) Country's violin.gif

I've noticed three things about every post that talks about race:

1) The misuse of the word racialism. Racialism and racism are not the same thing.

2) Every post includes the sentence: I'm not a racialist

3) Every post references the fact that the poster has non-white friends.

It's fascinating. It really is.

I could go on, but my coffee is still hot.

Well observed Sir.

Something I realised many years ago; racism will not go away until we stop talking about it.

I thank you.

The fact that the first reply to this post took to whinging about immigrants 'back home' pretty much proves the OP's point.

I'm just amazed that there wasn't a rant against Tony Blair in that first response.

Racists, Racialists. Who cares?

What we have are anti immigrant immigrants. I think that is a longer way of saying 'hypocrites'.

So yeah, a separate forum please. Fill it with the malcontents and angry people Surrounded by a high wall and fill with water.

Reading your posts is like driving past an accident on a motorway. You try not to stare and shake your head in a puzzled way, but it's impossible to resist the temptation.

I think what people need to understand that whinging is part of the cultural make up for Brits of a certain age demographic,( grumpy old men) considering that a vast number of Brits in Thailand who fit into this demographic one would expect to see hight volumes of whinging

I would like to see a british expat issues forum.

I am bored to death with british pension whingeing, especially since similar information for other nationalites tends to be closed or shunted into oblivion.

either that or start a geriatrics forum or and endless pension discussion forum open to all nationalities just spare having to read about it here.

Cue the malcontents who will whinge that they're not immigrants in Thailand because their visa is stamped 'non-immigrant'.

Oh the irony. Here we have a group of people who resent the influx of immigration 'back home' but are equally resentful in Thailand because they're not allowed to be fully fledged . . . ummmm . . immigrants.

First of im not a Brit... Thank god.

I also have problems with some immigrants in my home country. But to compare someone who brings in money to a country and someone who leaches money from a country is a bit strange.

If an immigrant works i have absolutely no problems with him or her, but if he gets in a country and starts right away taking money from the state that could tick me off. We got enough white trash doing the same already. All those people are taking it away from the people who really need it. As for hard working immigrants, why not they contribute just like all the other working and tax paying people.

I cant see how you can equate having a problem with immigrants like that with the status of people bringing money in to Thailand.

Just my 2 cents.

Oh the old 'we're different' because we bring money into Thailand line. Nice one.

2 cents is a fair assessment of value.
