Popular Post theblether
Is It Time For A Brits In Thailand Forum? Are You Fed Up With Threads Being Hijacked By Wingeing Brits? I was going to do a poll but I reckon the server would burst. Why is it that every other thread is some carp or complaint about the UK? Are these people not happy with life in Thailand? I don't see any other nationality come anywhere near the amount of relentlessly downbeat and negativity displayed by FAR TOO MANY!! ( but not all ) of the Brits that contribute to this forum. Today we have two threads going full steam ahead about British pension rights, by my reckoning that subject has been done to death over the past few months, and even the thread about "why are we not living in our home country" was started with having a pop at the UK again. It does my head in!! The same names fire straight into the battle every time and it doesn't take long for the racists to show their true colours, and that is the correct term, racism. Have a quick look at the topics today and see how many contributions refer to immigrants. I can't see how racism has a place on Thaivisa, and I cannot believe the rank rotten hypocrisy of people living in Thailand complaining about immigration in the UK. By the way I am British, I live in the UK, I live and own businesses in one of the most rough and tumble parts of Glasgow. I showed these threads to several friends today and they are incredulous, absolutely incredulous and highly amused at the litany of wingeing and self pity displayed by many contributors. Pitiful, quite pitiful. So at the risk of getting into trouble, and being subjected to a mass attack by the Malcontents, I ask, is it time for a separate Forum called Brits in Thailand so that these repetitive, racist and controversial threads can get parked out of sight of the people that actually enjoy life in Thailand? ps Please, PLEASE, don't get the impression that all of we Brits are social cripples, some of us do enjoy life and do have personalities.
Popular Post nontabury
I don't think the people you describe as racialist, are racialist, they think the same as the majority of the people in the UK, who are simply p.ssed off with what they see is happening to THEIR country. I for one would like the same controlls put on immigrants and so-called asylum seekers in the UK, as are in place in Thailand. Just be thankfull you live in glasgow with it's relatively small immigration community, and not in one of the many english towns.

ludditeman
I used to live in Glasgow, worst place in the world ever. Cold and wet all the time. All there was to do was drink yourself unconscious and have sex with cheap skanky hos. Errrr ...... just realised, sounds just like Thailand (apart form the weather)........... goddammit, I must be missing Glasgow! Popular Post submaniac
As someone who is not British, and a regular reader of this forum, I will give my opinion that I think the OP has a point. The biggest rants come from those who are British/U.K. nationals. I would also say that I am not really "complaining" about it; I actually find the rant posts to be some of the most entertaining stuff there is. I would also like to give my sincerest thanks to the British expats for edu-mah-cating me on your country. Everything I know about Britain I learned from Thaivisa. Apparently: (1) there are no more white people left in the U.K. (2) any person from a country that ends in the syllable "stan" is automatically entitled to British citizenship (3) the Falklands have always been British and Argentina can go F*** itself
chiang mai
I ilke the idea of two forums, one for Brits in Thailand and one for Brits outside, actually, the same could be said for any and all nationalities although Brits closely followed by the Americans seem to be the biggest offenders of people stating fiction as fact when it comes to all things Thai.
Popular Post BoonToong
There once was a monastery that was very strict. Following a vow of silence, no one was allowed to speak at all. But there was one exception to this rule. Every ten years, the monks were permitted to speak just two words. After spending his first ten years at the monastery, one monk went to the head monk. "It has been ten years," said the head monk. "What are the two words you would like to speak?" "Bed... hard..." said the monk. "I see," replied the head monk. Ten years later, the monk returned to the head monk's office. "It has been ten more years," said the head monk. "What are the two words you would like to speak?" "Food... stinks..." said the monk. "I see," replied the head monk. Yet another ten years passed and the monk once again met with the head monk who asked, "What are your two words now, after these ten years?" "I... quit!" said the monk. "Well, I can see why," replied the head monk. "All you ever do is complain." I thank you
Popular Post phutoie2
Look if it wasn't for the Brit rants this wouldn't be much of a forum, we know so much about humour & comedy. Popular Post Bangkokhatter
What nonsense. I am from the UK but actually love living and working in Thailand. Problem is when ever you say something about immigration back in the UK you are labelled as racist by people like you. Well I am far from racist, growing up on one of the most racially diverse council estate in England. Fact is the UK immigration is a massive problem. Too many people there now, the country is basically full and cannot carry on supporting mass immigration. Thats not racist its fact. Just because someone comments on something they don't like does not make them whingers, if that were the case then how would you describe yourself ?

bendix
Having spent the last two and a half years back in the UK I was delighted to see how well the immigrant population had integrated itself. Within weeks of arriving, previously hardworking immigrants had gone on the dole, developed an inflated sense of entitlement, moved to a diet based on chips, kebabs and Monster Munch, and spent their days on the sofa watching daytime tv and getting obese. Rather like their hosts. It was a joy to behold (as I headed towards Heathrow, exit stage left, permanently).
exeter
I think that the most complaints from former UK citizens are about how they perceive how the country they were born in, grew up in has changed. Society changes, I dont like how things have changed I seemed to have a become a 2nd class citizen in my own country have to fit in with all and sundry rather than the other way round. Racialsim now there is another twicther is it not. Racialism is actually almost always directed at white people if you think about it. Anyone can be accused of racialism but it almost is directed at white people. You can have black organisations and thats ok but you have a white organisation and all hell breaks loose. Take a look around and wonder why and how we have got to this situation. I have lots of friends who are non white by the way and am just making an observation and some are very good folk too, the Racialism card is always there in the back pocket to be played if you look like losing. Now MR BLETHER I know you are ex military and that you have worked and fought(?) with non whites and you have to depend on each other that I understand and am grateful that you and they do that for us all but as in everything in the world is one side of the coin, the good side on the other is the one who is always using the 'R' card to gain an advantage they should not have because they dont deserve it. So we end up with ethnic minorities is positions where they are oput of there depth and are there as a token which is wrong, the best people should be there, I could go on but my coffee is getting cold.

bendix
I've noticed three things about every post that talks about race: 1) The misuse of the word racialism. Racialism and racism are not the same thing. 2) Every post includes the sentence: I'm not a racialist 3) Every post references the fact that the poster has non-white friends. It's fascinating. It really is. I could go on, but my coffee is still hot. Edited February 22, 2012 by bendix

samran
The fact that the first reply to this post took to whinging about immigrants 'back home' pretty much proves the OP's point. First of im not a Brit... Thank god. I also have problems with some immigrants in my home country. But to compare someone who brings in money to a country and someone who leaches money from a country is a bit strange. If an immigrant works i have absolutely no problems with him or her, but if he gets in a country and starts right away taking money from the state that could tick me off. We got enough white trash doing the same already. All those people are taking it away from the people who really need it. As for hard working immigrants, why not they contribute just like all the other working and tax paying people. I cant see how you can equate having a problem with immigrants like that with the status of people bringing money in to Thailand. Just my 2 cents.
