webfact Posted February 22, 2012 Share Posted February 22, 2012 PM'S FOUR SEASONS MEETING PM vows to cooperate over hotel meeting THE NATION BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday promised to cooperate with the Ombudsman's Office as it looks into a complaint of misconduct in connection with her choosing to attend a private meeting at a Bangkok hotel instead of being present at a parliamentary meeting. Speaking during her visit to the Rajabhat Udon Thani University, Yingluck said she was ready to provide details of her meeting with some real-estate developers at Bangkok's Four Seasons Hotel on February 8. "I am ready to cooperate, but I need to find out if I will be busy," she said, adding that the meeting was a "normal exchange of views", without any conflict of interest. "We won't do anything that will worsen people's already bad situation," she said referring to the damage from last year's severe flooding. The Opposition and critics have been pointing to a possible conflict of interest when the premier met a small group of leading real-estate developers. Politicians from her Pheu |Thai Party have denied that there had been any indecent conduct following claims that Yingluck was spotted in the company of a businessman at the hotel. The Ombudsman's Office, which is investigating a petition by the yellow-shirt Green Politics group, recently called on the premier to explain herself within 30 days. Meanwhile, Democrat Party spokesman Chavanont Intarakomalsut said yesterday that some of the real-estate companies, whose executives reportedly met the prime minister on February 8, were connected to the Shinawatra family. He said the Opposition would continue its scrutiny of the matter to confirm its suspicion of "policy corruption", despite attempts being made to distort facts. How many private-interest groups does the PM normally hold secret-meetings with ? Q. Does she not see how a meeting which includes her family-owned property-company, when there are major construction-projects being planned by her government, might result in a perceived conflict-of-interest ? Q. Does she agree that she ought to attend meetings involving her 'day-job', as a higher priority, than this ? Q. Could attending this meeting not have been delegated to someone else ? Q. Therefor every meeting is non-private when it comes to business. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said she is ready to be investigated by the ombudsman following a complaint lodged by the advocacy group Green Politics regarding her private meeting with real estate businessmen at the Four Seasons Hotel. Yingluck said she cannot confirm right now whether she will be able to meet with the ombudsman herself, as it will depend on her schedule. She added that she will cooperate fully with the investigation and said she will hold no bad feelings against the ombudsman. Yingluck speculated that the ombudsman's summons will most likely be more of an exchange of information rather than an interrogation. Yingluck's legal team lodged the complaints Thursday at Lumpini police station, targetting three Democrat MPs and a party spokesman. The MPs are Thepthai Senpong, Sirichok Sopha and Mallika Boonmeetrakul. Democrat spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut is also on the list of the accused. "The police complaints are deemed necessary in order to defend the integrity of PM Yingluck in her role as a woman and mother," Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said. Prompong said the accused had smeared and dishonoured Yingluck and her family beyond the airing of criticism for a public figure. In the first case, Thepthai, Sirichok and Chavanond were accused of making malicious remarks against Yingluck in a talk show aired on February 15 by Blue Sky Channel, a satellite television station. For the second case, Chavanond gave various interviews from February 15 to 21, smearing Yingluck for conflict of interest. The question may well also be put to the Finance Minister Kittirat, who also attended the secret meeting and it is being requested that he too be probed by the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman was also requested today to provide an update on their request for an inquiry as to the suitability of Yingluck's appointments of Blacklisted Nalinee and Red Shirt Leader Out On Bail Natthawut to become Yingluck Cabinet Ministers. Short hand: we now know what land will be bought up, but we aren't saying where till our friends can first buy it up cheap, and they needed to know the amount they can get from the scheme per rai, to know how much they should pay when buying it up, prior to resale to the government. And also know the exact details of what land will be taken for the project. And we can't let the general public know 'details', because then THEY will jack up their prices of the land they will sell to our friends, so all our cuts will get smaller. So, we can't talk about it till the deals are sealed. Oh, wait how can we think a government could do this to it's citizens? TIT, ah yes, all is clear. The party that loves Thais is doing their utmost, to love the Thais that pay them the best kickbacks. Lite Beer Posted February 23, 2012 Share Posted February 23, 2012 Yingluck clarifies regarding last week's 'secret' meeting through Facebook BANGKOK, Feb 23 - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Thursday clarified through her public Facebook account regarding her Feb 8 meeting with property developers at a Bangkok five-star hotel during working hours, for which she had previously failed to give the public a clear explanation. Ms Yingluck posted on her Facebook wall that she had not earlier clarified this allegedly 'nonsensical' matter since the beginning because she was not keen on political games. The meeting between the premier, her Deputy Prime Minister/Finance Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong, and a group of businesspeople at Four Seasons Hotel sparked criticism amongst the public over possible conflicts of interest and its appropriateness, as it was held while the House was in session. Political groups petitioned the Ombudsman's Office last week to investigate alleged misconduct by the premier and the deputy prime minister. Regarding why she did not attend the parliamentary session at the time, Ms Yingluck stated she was aware what matters were on the table during the session but there were no matters that she, as the prime minister, had to participate in order to clarify to the House. She added that she went to the Parliament after the meeting at Four Seasons to listen to and make queries at the session, and signed her name as a member of parliament at 16:16. Regarding why she did not answer the recent motion of Democrat MP Rangsima Rodrasamee on Feb 16, the premier said she was on duty at flood areas in the central provinces of Lop Buri and Ayutthaya, which had continued since Feb 13. She said she assigned her deputy Gen Yuttasak Sasiprapa to answer the motion on her behalf, which was possible to do according to parliamentary regulations. Lastly, the prime minister insisted the meeting on Feb 8 was not for personal reasons and that no conflict of interest was involved concerning land expropriation for floodway construction, flood retention areas, and delays on land price estimation. She said she met with several businesspeople at the hotel's executive club, which was an open space, in order to listen to and exchange ideas on Thailand's financial and political situation for the utmost benefit of the country. Ms Yingluck continued that there were many witness such as hotel staff and securities. Nonetheless, the businesspeople she was meeting with did not wish to make it publicly known, therefore members of the press and media were not involved. IIf it were publicly known they were 'allegedly' getting 'Insider Trading Information', it would hurt their 'alleged' profit margins at time of sale, and put their 'alleged' dealings at risk. On 2012-02-12 PM Yingluck said "“I did not have a meeting there. But as prime minister, I can meet anybody at a public place. It is not damaging,” she said. “I am a woman, and I insist I did not do anything wrong,” she said."
