On this type of setup - not the traditional, NORMAL dos - It has little to do with Thai culture (which has been totally skewed) and folk saying otherwise (Thaier than Thai lemmings) don't really know much. Ozzydom/Thaddeus are right on the money; it's all about face: look how much noise I can make, look how many people come, look at me, I desire to be noticed. Wholly unBuddhist, wholly unThai of yesteryear, all for face and little to do with the departed. How do you folk live in these villages?
