My wife is Thai she has ILR but now wants to go for british citizenship, . My question is can she have duel nationality, I ask this question because she owns property in Thailand and we are unsure if she takes British nationality she may loose the right to own property in Thailand.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Dual Nationality is permitted!

Therefore, she should have no problems!

Interesting. I thought it was permitted by UK but not Thailand.

The last I read was that children under 18 could hold dual nationality but had to choose when they are 18, from the Thai point of view ie the UK allow dual nationality but Thailand doesn't.

Maybe it is different for adults? Or I have outdated information?

Outdated information. Law was liberalised in 1992, twenty years ago.

Hundreds - probably thousands - of Thais hold Dual Thai / British Citizenship; including my Wife and Daughter.

Both own property in Thailand in their own names, travel in and out of Thailand using both Passports.

Never a problem and - just in case you wonder - not at all illegal in any way.

Just to confirm Patrick, someone with two passports could leave Thailand on their Thai Passport, use the British passport to enter and leave Britain and then use the Thai passport to re-enter Thailand, and/or vice versa?

Yep, my wife and kids do just that - need to have both ready in case there is a query about stamps (never been queried ourselves though). They own land too, in their names - no problems.

As a footnote and posted elsewhere, there was a huge queue for non-EU/British passport holders at Heathrow when we arrived. I would guess it would have taken at least two hours to get through.

However, we asked an official if all three of us could go through the British passport control together and he agreed.

10 minutes later and, without a single question being asked of the other half, we were all within the borders of UK, little 'un in on his Brit passport.

The fact that it was freezing cold and raining made us want to turn around and go back but that is another story.
