Rectifying Blood pressure takes several months of adjustment for many patients, and in particular life style impacts greatly, ie diet, exercise, existing health issues etc, so there is no quick fix, you should find a doctor I suggest with an understanding ie one of the larger practices in Pattaya like Dr Belem, Dr Ben or I suggest a hospital practitioner.

I guess you want a miracle cure, well sorry with Blood pressure this does not happen:

There are five main classes of medicines that are used to lower blood pressure:

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors

Angiotensin receptor blockers

Calcium-channel blockers

Diuretics (water tablets)

Beta-blockers

ACE inhibitors - sometimes cause an irritating cough.

Angiotensin receptor blockers - sometimes cause dizziness.

Calcium-channel blockers - sometimes cause dizziness, facial flushing, swollen ankles, and constipation.

Diuretics - can cause gout attacks in a small number of users, or can make gout worse if you already have gout. Impotence develops in some users.

Beta-blockers - can cause cool hands and feet, poor sleep, tiredness, and impotence in some users.

One medicine can reduce high blood pressure to the target level in less than half of cases. It is common to need two or more different medicines to reduce high blood pressure to a target level. In about a third of cases, three medicines or more are needed to get blood pressure to the target level. So, for example, you may need an ACE inhibitor plus a calcium-channel blocker (and sometimes also another medicine) to control your blood pressure

Treatment is guided by the A/C, A+C, A+C+D approach as follows:

If you are less than 55 years old and are not of black African or Caribbean origin then initial treatment should be with 'A' (an ACE inhibitor, or an angiotensin receptor blocker if an ACE inhibitor causes problems or side-effects).

If you are 55 years or older, or are of black African or Caribbean origin then initial treatment should be with 'C' (a calcium-channel blocker).

Then, if the target blood pressure is not reached, combine 'A' with 'C' (an ACE inhibitor or an angiotensin receptor blocker plus a calcium-channel blocker).

Then, if target blood pressure is still not reached, combine 'A' with 'C' and 'D' (an ACE inhibitor or an angiotensin receptor blocker, and a calcium-channel blocker, and a diuretic).

If a fourth medicine is needed to achieve the target blood pressure, consider adding of one of the following:

A beta-blocker

Another diuretic

An alpha-blocker

I hope this helps you understand how not to end up with a stroke or dying!

Good luck

Paul

Paul,

Thank you - unfortunately I was given 3 meds to take and it basically turned me into

a zombie while just barely getting my BP #'s into the 'acceptable' range.

Looking for a real doctor and not a pill pusher.

Dr. Ben Thamrong, M.D., F.A.C.O.G, received his M.D. from a Thai University. He received some training in the US and practiced as a OBGYN in several New York & New Jersey locations before returning to Thailand several years ago.

He has a practice in "general medicine, STD, Etc Quick HIV Test, G.C, Warts, ED, Viagra, Cialis, etc." in Naklua. (This is on his business card..)

He also fills in at the Banglamung Clinic on South Pattaya Road. You can Google him.

I am on a combination of beta blockers and diuretics and it works quite fine for me. I tried ACE inhibitors first but had the awful ACE-cough with them. The thing is that all of these meds may have some side effects, but not everybody react in the same way, so there are no real "preferred meds", it's all up to what works for the individual.

Other than that I agree that it is better to combine different type meds to reach your target level rather than increase the dose of fewer.

It also can take quite long time for the body to adjust to the meds, weeks and sometimes months. Worth persisting as the long-term implications of HBP can be dire - hence the term "the silent killer".

May I suggest that you buy a automatic home blood pressure monitor and take your blooded pressure at different times throughout the day( sit down and relax for 10 to 15 minutes prior for a more reliable reading)..then make a dairy of these reading ( B/P,pulse rate, time etc) for at least one week a bit longer would be better and armed with these reading the doctor will be better able to assess your B/P problems.

The stress of a hospital/doctors visit can artificially raise your B/P and thus give a false high reading this is known as "White coat syndrome".

No matter what advice you get from me or anyone else on Thaivisa don't delay seeing a health care practitioner for too long.

Yes, I can believe this, it often happens, especially as your body adjusts to the drugs......but changing Doctors is not always the answer, as then you are just starting again...what you need to do is go back to your Doctor and explain the symptoms and ask to change the drugs for an alternative, there is about 100 differing drugs for BP

I use an android app to record figures - iBP Blood Pressure on android market for Bt.30.00.

I had a health check at BPH last May which was the first proper medical I have ever had and it showed up high BP (148/100) and extremely high cholesterol and triglycerides (394/641). I have been seeing Dr.Athakorn Kirakul there since then every two months and have now been taken off tablets for BP (under 120/80 without medication) and hopefully will be able to come off the Lopid when I see him next week. Though he did prescribe medication he has worked with me in getting to a point where I can stop taking them.

Can a course of acupuncture assist in lowering blood pressure?

I tried acupuncture a few years ago to reduce ringing in my ears (I think caused by the stress of a house sale). Now I am better but it may be just due to the reduction of stress levels due to the house sale completing. One thing I noticed was that my BP readings taken on my wrist monitor were slightly improved after the course completed.

My readings are edging up to the 140/90 levels now, so I was wondering whether to try another course of acupunture. (I can recommend the Chinese clinic in the St Louis hospital, Sathorn,

BKK).

Anybody have any experince with BP and acupuncture?

Its effects are mild, mainly in mediating any hypertension due top stress.

if you truly have essential hypertension, accupuncture won't change that.

Losing weight if you need to, exercuise and less sodium in the diet help. If those fail (or you are unable to do them) and the BP is still hgih then medication is unavoidable.

All that said, accupuncture is very relaxing, and to the extent stress is your problem it will certainly help with that.
