Narathiwat Airport To Malay Border- Safety?

Featured Replies

Are there any records of attacks/bombings on the route from Narathiwat airport to the Malay border? I'm trying to get a sense of how dangerous it really is... we don't have the time or money to fly to Kuala Lumpur then another flight to Bharu. Should I (white farang) wear an islamic cap and my gf wear a headscarf or something to avoid being killed? Should we take a taxi or minivan between the airport and border?

Dear Svann!RU real? cap on your head?scarf? "to avoid being killed"?

I think - you have fallen into President Obama's apologising mood? Why you go to Malaysia? - this is Moslem country!

Could you post us here picture of yourself and your GF in white moslem cap and scarf?(black scarf!)

Immigration post in SungaiGolok had been bombed once few years ago, there is another border crossing few miles away in East direction, next to seashore.

You have no choice about transport from airport - taxi or minivan from airport booking counter.

You can also take sleeper train from BKK to SungaiGolok or direct bus,to save money.

I am not sure about your cap and your GF scarf - where to apply them? on BKK departure or in destination on arrival?

Do not forget about photo!I will appreciate it muck!muck!I am looking forward to see it!

Cheers!

I was kidding about the scarf ;)

I'm assuming the Tak Bai (seashore) border crossing is safer than Sungai Golok?

No-this like most of your other assumptions are false. It is-plainly said, a matter of luck , good or bad-call it a lotteree if you want. Babysun above has the right attitude and insight.

In fact flying into HYai will save both money and time-many more flghts and thus chance on lower price, and many direct minivans Hyai-TOWN to border @ Skolok.

Myself took train HYai-border last nov-the only white and hence paying between the free riding Thai on the normal all-stops. ALL stations between Hyai and SKolok are all fenced off, heavily guarded and entry is with airport style checks. 1 or 2 minor stops had been transformed into a kind of military training camp just for that. After the mediate stop at Yaa many curious people asking why the h..k i would want go there-did I not know about? and comforting ''youll be allright''. At SK border the Malays had to dust off their fingerprint etc machines just for me-they told me I was the 1st whitey to arrive since 2-3 days there.

Anohter way to go around is to fly to Penang and take a Malay bus-day or night-over to eastcoast.

I was kidding about the scarf wink.png

I knew, that you was kidding;but this situation today is not kidding. In past, few yrs ago

they bombed Hatyai Airport - just the shop where I used to buy tel.cards - girl who sold cards to me was the only victim;this was bloody real!

I used only border crossing in SungaiGolok and I did not feel any excitement,it is possible to do it fast. The fact is,that I did it,cause I was in a hurry - but it happened more then once.

Way through Sadao border had no incidents at all,so it is safer for sure.

I am sure - you will be lucky all the way to your paradise destination!

Chock Dee!

it's safer than crossing the road in BKK.
