Open Return Ticket

Featured Replies

travelling from the UK which Airline company would you get an open return ticket.

all. In fact it does not matter at all if you start from GB or elsewhere.

Again someone who tries to play the travel-agent without knowing the details?

Point is: these are -now-with most airlines, ONLY available at the full fare economy-that high that you will keep astounded back in your seat.

Next best: DECIDE on how long you will stay in TH at the most (as 3/6/12 month will differ in price-12 month is hardly worth buying-and book-use those grey stuff upstairs- the best return with the chance to change (maybe with a fee) the return date. Better booking sites always let you peruse all the often very complicated fare rules about that.

OR-pick up the fone and call a reliable agent who knows the tricks of the trade.

Even if you can afford an open end ticket most airlines will limit your validity to a maximum of one year from when the ticket is purchased, not when it used

Eva Air (BR) used to make open return tickets readily accessible on their website's booking engine, and the option remains but I cannot get it to work for LHR-BKK.

Thai Airways (TG) does sell open-return tickets for LHR-BKK and CDG-BKK as I know some people currently here traveling on those types of tickets, and I don't think they were as expensive as full Y.

Agree with asanee that it may be best to contact the airline directly, via the telephone or in person, or work with a reputable agent.

There have been many, many threads here on this subject so a search might yield some valuable details?

If you are that uncertain of return date and providing you get a valid visa, just buy a one-way ticket.

This is the expensive option

I find best airline is emirates as you can go to there office in BKK any time

There are several options you can take, most airlines who issue a 12 month open return cannot book a year in advance as their systems don't book that far ahead.

There will be a charge for a date change, for example if you booked March 1st 2012 for 12 months the airline will give you date around November, changing to March 1st 2013 will cost you from 75 quid with Emirates to 150 with Jet. It's important to change the date asap as a 'No Show' on your original date will cost around 150 quid

I would recommend Cathay Pacific, 11 hours to Hong Kong with a 90 min stop then less then 3 hours to Bangkok, a 12 month valid is currently less than 540 quid, i'd call that a result

I've only used 2 agents, Southall Travel and West East Travel, highly recommended!!

Better buy a cheaper return ticket and throw away the return flight ticket

set a return date and then change it to when you actually want to go home. tickets will have a "shelf life" depending on who you buy from and how much you pay. shop around and inquire about "changing your return date" fees. if you buy bargain fares, you will be able to change return date, but will have a fee to do so and may be limited when you do change as the airline will put you in the same rate class seat...if available. I have, in the past, purchased an "upgrade" which gave me more options for my return date.

Bottom line is.... do your own research, ask lots of questions, and read the fare rules and fine print.

Go to any airlines website and make a dummy booking, ie book a flight but do not pay. At some point when making the booking you will see their fare rules and conditions.

It will give you all the information you need.
