Hello , firstly i have 2 sons 4 and 6 years old born in Thailand with a Thai mother and Im from the U.K

Its about time they should visit U.K and i am trying to get info how do do this

I am wanting to get a British passport for both of them!

Do they need a thai passport first?

As far as i am aware its a case of getting there birth certificates translated /my birth cert/wife birth cert/ ID/ forms/ and going to the British Embassy with a wallet full of cash

I would love to know how much is this going to cost?

also the time scale ,

another issue is my wife has visited the U.K but will she be able to get another visit visa easy enough?

Also i had to show i was working before to sponser her but now living here for 7 years i cannot show i am able to as i have no income from the u.k?

Last question i plan to visit Laos next month can they do this with just id as i have heard that they wont need a passport just birth certificates for a few days visit !

Thanks for your time and i would love to have any help with this as dont fancy travelling back and forth to bangkok thanks

First of all, are you married or not to the mother. That makes you the legal father of the children or not.

Your children can get a British paspsort, the embassy website gives all the details about that.

Yes, it would be wise to get a Thai passport. (also for the Laos trip). A Thai passport costs 1,000 baht and the children will defintely needing one to leave Thailand. You can let them leave n a British passport, but when they want to return to Thailand with only a UK paspsort, they would need a visa for Thailand.

To avoid these kind of problems, with dual nationality you leave and enter Thailand on a Thai passport and the country of your other nationality on that countries passport. At airline checkin you show both passports, to confirm no visa is needed.

Just done this recently. Costs, documents required etc are on this Topic.

Like Mario2008 says depends if you were married or not. If married just get the translations and fill in the passport applications. If unmarried and the birth was before July 1 2006 you have to complete a Domicile Questionnaire and you and your wife have to sign Paternity Declarations witnessed by Embassy/Consulate staff.

Just done this- cost for 2 new kids passports including DHL 10,400 baht (they send the info to London not HK for new first time passports). You need birth certificates and translated copies plus your passport. But note, if you were born outside of the UK, then your kids will not be eligible for a UK passport!!!
