Hi, I and my Thai gf are going to marry next month and we are going to apply for a settlement visa to. I have filled in 90% of the form already but I'm unsure how to answer question 8.6.7 "Do you intend to work in the UK?"...please provide full details. At some point yes she does intend to work in the UK but she hasn't even arrived yet LOL. My friend has his own small business, so my thought was to get him to offer her a part time job via letter headed paperwork. Is this enough evidence for visa purposes? and how much checking up (if any) do the authorities do? because he isn't in a financial position to offer her a real job at this time.

Thanks...advice will be greatly appreciated

Once settled the applicant will seek employment.

Hi thanks for the quick reply...it was the "please provide full details" part that was worrying. So to answer "once settled the applicant will seek employment" is sufficient. Thank you very much for your fast response.

Keep to the truth, it is far too easy to trip up, and yes they can, and they do make calls to verify claims.

Being found out can cause real problems, including a 10 year ban.

Don't get your friend to make a fake job offer. Just say that she intends to seek work and give examples of types of work she could do, ie she is qualified to do. By all means include some examples of online job ads if you can find some.

We just stated that my wife does intend to work part-time, didn't add any more details. I also stated in my sponsor letter and financial section of my wifes application that she would "eventually" look for work to help contribute to the running of the house (in fact she has been here 3 months now and has her first interview next week). The emphasis is more on your ability to support the two of you than her having a job to come to.

Thanks toddmeister, I will follow your lead :). Good luck to your wife also on her forthcoming job interview :)

i put yes on my app,a few years ago,the answer to the same question years ago off blokes on tv was yes, dont want her reliant on the state,do we.

I don't think anyone will necessarily think she will be reliant on the state just because she doesn't have a job. There are plenty of Britsh housewives being supported by their husbands who don't need recourse to public funds. Being a foreign national shouldn't make a difference in my opinion.
