Taking Dog To Thailand

Featured Replies

Next month I want to bring my new Shepard pup to Thailand.

My kids will go wild at the air port,

The questions i have is what can i expect at the airport and from customs?

What papers do i need and various vaccines for the pup before entering thailand ?

The pup will be staying there.

All and any info grateful, I will be flying from Vancouver to Bkk, about the first week of April

thanks in advance

I did it a few years ago - and in the month it took to set up, they changed the rules twice...so you will need to check with the authorities for up to date info.

Basically, on the Thai side you jneed to get a form and fill it in (can be done via fax both ways). Dog needs all jabs including rabbies shot BEFORE coming to Thailand (this was one of the changes - before you culd get it done here in Thailand). Needs a vets check no more than 2 days before departure - think tgis also needs to be faxed with the import forms. Copies of all papers need to travel with the dog. Also needs to be chipped.

It can be quite hard bringing a puppy in as rabbies shots are not usually done until 6 months old.

There was a big thread about this a years or so ago when I had more details and others pitched in.

If you bring the dog through the airport (excess baggage) then you have to report at the airport (follow the signs) and pay a waver (used to be 100 baht - no idea if this has changed).

If you send him cargo (may have to if airlne will not take as excess baggage) then use an agent - PM me and I can give you someone that we used Thai side - and expect a good few hundred dollars import tax.

Unhelpful negative and pointless troll post removed as well as a response to that post. If you don't have anything to contribute sometimes its just better to not post at all.

Moving to Pets forum where you should check the pinned thread importing a dog for info.

It seems as though you are coming from Vancouver which I believe is a LOT cooler than Thailand and I think it will affect the dog a lot.

I live out in the country 400 km north of Bangkok and it is 36C outside in the shade right now at 2 in the afternoon.

The coolest I have seen it in the last year was 15C.

If it is a GSD it will have a thick coat which won't make the dogs life easy.
