English Lesson For Thais

I learnt through reading TV that the short term for mathematics is maths not math. I feel that is because the word mathematics ends in s right.

So with nationality abreviations that leaves me with a question.

Examples

Americans -Yankee for one, Yankees for 2 ot more so abreviations so Yankee and Yankees.

Australia - Australian for one, Australians for 2 or more so abrevations Aussie and Aussies

Canada- Canadian for one, Canadians for 2 or more so abreviations Canuck or Canucks.

But Britian uses British for one or more all the same, but abreviations are Brit and Brits. Should it not be Brith for all one or 2 or more?

Really need help understanding this thanks.
