100kgs of Marijuana seized by Pattaya Police

PATTAYA:--100kgs of Marijuana have been seized by Pattaya Police in a sting operation which led to the arrest of one man.

Police Lieutenant General Panya, Region 2 Police Commissioner led a press conference at Pattaya Police Station on Tuesday to announce the arrest of Khun Nalongchai aged 36 who was caught after a brief car chase by Undercover Police who received information of the car and a suspicion a significant amount of drugs were being transported to Pattaya.

Khun Nalongchai, an unemployed Electrical Engineer, claimed he was paid 20,000 Baht every time he successfully delivery a consignment of drugs and on this occasion he had picked-up a consignment of One Hundred 1kg blocks of the class 5 drug Marijuana from Sakon Nakon Province in the North-East of Thailand. The General suspects the drugs, with an estimated street value of 18 Million Baht,

The street value of a 1kg block of Marijuana in Thailand is Baht 18,000 (18,000 x 100 = 1.8 million and not 18 million).

Granted if you break down the block and sell it in smaller weights the street value is different but given that the end price for a small amount is dependent on the individual dealer, it would be impossible to guess the value of a 1kg block.

I'm not sure if this is false information by the police trying to make the bust sound better (more important) or if this is a mistake by Pattaya One News but this should be 1.8 million..

But irregardless of the value, 100 kgs is a big haul and a good catch.

I always find these things so funny how they only ever catch a dealer or transporter. Not the big boys.. im pretty sure the police know who they are but are paid to stay away.

Because I know someone who recently bought a kilo and got arrested at the buy.
