Hi,

I went and added 'unlimited Internet' (which I think is 3 GB on 3G and 3G on GPRS when the first 3 GB is used up) to my 1-2-call PAYG account the other day in a mobile shop, but I've no idea if this lasts for 1 month or it expires when the data is used. The cost was about 900 baht.

Does anyone know the deal with this? And I'm also not sure of the short code to dial to find out - the balance on that is totally separate from voice calls as I still see my regular voice/sms balance when I dial *121#

Thanks for any advice.

My best guess: You have unlimited data for 1 month, your speed is unlimited for data upload/download up to 3GB, after that your speed will be limited 384 Kbps. After one month the plan will automagically renew if you have enough balance.

*139# SEND should return the data plan specifics, however on some unlimited plans it may not return a specific usage of 3G data.

I think the 3 GB was referring to 3 GBytes of data allowance and not 3 Gbps limited network speed, especially because I've already done a speed test and achieved over 5 mpbs in Hua Hin....

You'll find you've got unlimited data download for one month (for 799 baht plus vat). The first 3GB of data will download at 3G speeds then after that all data will download at 2G (384 kb) speed.

It's not limited to a 3GB data allowance in total.

And I'm guessing it's 30 days from when I activated it...? I'd like to find out how to top it up again myself rather than going to market village shopping centre again - I guess there's some information online somewhere.

Anyway aside from the nostalgia, the iPhone 4S I've picked up is pretty good and I assume the I'm getting HSDPA here in Hua Hin - achieved 8.9 Mbps on a speed test but I can't remember what technology AIS have deployed (here in Hua Hin), but it's actually faster than my home broadband most of the time... :-)

I should read the posts correctly in future :-)

Well I've checked the table now and thanks for that - yes it's all there I had the 799 baht package, and it seems I can just re-subscribe myself with the short code dial number as it shows, or it may do so itself if I have enough balance.

Unlimited data with the first 3GBytes on maximum 3G speed possible until it's used up then unlimited data at 384 kbps maximum. Pretty good as I've only used 200 MB of my 3GByte "max 3G" allowance. Since my 3G connection is faster than my home broadband (my apartments limit to 2 Mbps per room) I shouldn't even bother switching to Wifi when I'm at home....

The package says unlimited wifi and it does show lots of hotspots in hua hin if you use the map selector (if you can read Thai) - but no clues as to what the password is to access it. Not that it really matters....

Did *139# send not work for you?

You can also use the eServices platform.

Your plan runs for one month, so if you first subscribed on March 5 then it would automatically renew on April 4 at ~ 23:59. All you have to do is have enough balance for the plan to renew, you do not have to send any codes.

You can add value (top up) your account many different ways: http://www.ais.co.th...l/en/topup.html

To subscribe Wifi, please dial *388# ico_tel_mobile.gif to get username and password. For more information, click www.ais.co.th/Wifi

Re: speeds, I never mentioned 3 Gbps, nor did I say your plan was limited to 3 GB.

May or may not be obvious but just fyi it won't renew itself if you have 800 baht in there... it's 799+vat so don't forget to keep a balance of at least 855 baht around the time your renewal should kick in. Normally they send an sms a day or two before to that effect, anyway... At least dtac and true do...

Ais send a reminder sms in thai 3 days before the next renewal. Usually AIS prepaid internet packages include vat. am i mistaken?

You can topup at 7-11, most thai ATMs, or internet banking. Big C/Tesco may sell some topup cards. Telewiz and some local vendors may also do topups.

AIS eService does credit card topup and you can get 10% bonus. i wonder if visa offers some kind of incentive for merchants to do this, as a cc terminal usually costs more? In most cases, wouldn't cash be the better option for the merchant?

That seems pretty expensive - that sort of money gets you hundreds of minutes of phone calls and unlimited texts as well as unlimited data in the UK...

i.e. 15 pounds on three includes 300 minutes of calls and unlimited texts on PAYG, or the regular 17 pounds on T-mobile includes 1200 minutes of calls along with unlimited texts and internet. Both of those are under 799 baht and already include the tax. And there's none of the crap you get here with your money "expiring" if you don't do another topup..

So what's your point...that we should all move to blighty for the supposedly cheaper mobile phone calling plans?

But one baht per minute for standard phone calls on PAYG is much cheaper than the UK.

It's the 3G internet connection in Thailand that's more expensive at the moment but I'm sure that will come down in the future as more and more Thais want to use it.

At least in Thailand once you've used your 3G allowance you can continue with 2G at no extra cost. Unlike the UK where the providers continue supplying 3G ...........BUT AT AN EXTORTIONATE COST.

Not all. Some T-Mobile plans are unlimited. Mine certainly is. Limited data, but unlimited browsing. Then there is the Three ONE Plan with unlimited data, including downloads.

Depends on the package. Some include VAT. My 7GB 'Unlimited' package is 999 baht inclusive of VAT. I think the 5GB 899 baht package also includes VAT. So if the 3GB does not, it may be worth upgrading to the 5GB package for just 44 baht more for those who may use it. You also get some free e-magazine and music downloads chucked in. Though I haven't taken advantage. :)

*139*3# on AIS will send you a text with the remaining time on your package, as well as the expiry date.

Better than *139# which doesn't give you as much info
