Nice New Plants On Silom...Why?

Recommended Posts

Noticed a few days ago that there are new plants and a wodden, log fence in the medium of Silom Road up near Rama 4. Any idea why?

There is a sign up that probably explains why, but after 5 minutes of trying to sound out the Thai and then remember what the words are, I gave up.

1) For beauty?

2) Help with Environment?

3) Beats having nothing.

4) They do this all over Thailand usually. I've never been to a community that wasn't decorated.

I've been wondering for a long time what happened to the two windmill sculptures that they installed about 3 years ago. One was on the median strip at the head of Silom road near Silom MRT, and the other was on the median strip at the junction with Narathiwat.

Made out of nice shiny looking (expensive?) metal.

They weren't there long.

Stolen???

5) Because someone is going to get some money from this ?

Flood rehab money has to be spent somehow, why not this? Besides this year the logs can used for rafts when the waters come..

The windmill is still at the Silom/Narathiwat junction.

I bet it would have made a nice photograph

Obviously there to improve the look of the place. Are you trying to say that you couldn't work that out yourself. For your information, roads are landscaped in almost every country in the world.

There is the old one mounted in the klong, but there used to be a smaller one ON Silom road on the median strip underneath the skytrain, and if you were more than 6ft 3 in tall you were likely to have your head sliced open if you walked too close when you crossed the road.

My attempt at sarcasm, a pic of the sign would have explained it

Sorry if it was above you

Anyway shouldn't you be at school?

This is to prevent street vendors who pay nothing from setting up shop in this area.

I think silom means windmill.. There used to be a canal down the middle..

Hmmm, no conspiracy suggestions yet as to why the plants and fence are placed there ......come on, we can do better than that tongue.png

Silom (see lom) does indeed mean windmill. But that has nothing to do with the question why new plants have been planted.

It may be just for the oxygen. I encourage planting plants in every part of every city.
