Phitsanulok residents warned of the spread of summer illnesses

BANGKOK, 11 March 2012 (NNT) - The state health office in northern Phitsanulok is warning locals to beware of the spread of bacteria illnesses during the hot summer season.

Dr. Boonterm Tansurat of the Phitsanulok Provincial Public Health Office said that, as Thailand is entering the summer season, dry and hot weather will enable bacteria to grow more rapidly, especially in the area that lacks clean water.

Under such circumstances, Dr. Boonterm warned the public to beware of food- and water-borne illnesses, such as diarrhea and dysentery, particularly among the elderly and the children.

As a precaution, the Phitsanulok Provincial Public Health Office asks the public to make sure that all food consumed is newly cooked. Unfinished dishes must be stored in the refrigerator and properly reheated before consumption. It also recommended the use of middle spoons and the cleaning of hands before starting a meal while drinking only clean or boiled water.

Chatuchak Market management confident vendor registration will complete by Mar 13

BANGKOK, 11 March 2012 (NNT) - The management of Thailand's popular Chatuchak Weekend Market is hopeful that the registration of all existing vendors will be completed by its deadline.

Mr. Charasphan Watcharothai, Director of Chatuchak Market, said that the registration of existing vendors at this popular market has been going on smoothly.

He said that, so far, around 3,500 vendors have signed their names up with the new Chatuchak Market management team under the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).

On Saturday alone, around 500 more of the existing vendors were expected to register themselves, making the total number of registered merchants at 4,000 out of nearly 8,900 names.

Mr. Charasphan is confident that by March 13, which is the deadline for the registration, all vendors will have signed up their names with the market management.

He added that the SRT has also confirmed that it will not change the proposed monthly rent of THB3,157 for a period of 2 years.

The SRT is adamant that the new rent is suitable, as the previous rate has been too low for a marketplace that welcomes as many as 300,000 shoppers during the weekend.

Kittiratt calls meeting to consider 3-year debt moratorium/cutting loan interest for good borrowers

BANGKOK, 11 March 2012 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong on Sunday held talk with chief executives of six state Specialized Financial Institutions (SFIs) to finalize the course of debt suspension scheme for good debtors.

High on the agenda is the proposed moratorium for responsible debtors with debts not exceeding 500,000 baht.

Consideration is likely to concentrate on two options for debtors. First, they may stop paying debt for as long as 3 years but are subjected to normal interest payment and deprived of chances for additional borrowings. Another option is for debtors to gain cheaper interest rates which are 2% lower than original rates, for a period of 3 years and can still ask for more loans.

The six Specialized Financial Institutions (SFIs) consist of the Government Savings Bank, the Government Housing Bank, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Export-Import Bank of Thailand, the Islamic Bank of Thailand, and the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand.
