Hi,

I've been reading this forum for the past month or so now, but haven't had any input to offer, or any specific query that required feedback.

I'm fresh off the boat, or plane and besides a 2 week vacation by the beach in Krabi and the 3 days I used to find an apartment, have never been to thailand before.

I'm living in Bangkok for the next 6 months or so, possibly longer. I've rented a three bedroom apartment which has almost everything a small family could possibly require already stocked in the cupboards and kitchen.

I have a small family with two infant children. And many things were simply too big to fit inside our 32kg hold luggage allocation, and I simply can't find a place to buy many of the things that back in the UK we would simply go to the nearest 100,000 sq metre Tesco Super Store for. So if anyone can afford it, I'd appreciate a little help.

Can anyone please tell me where I might find items so mundane as a Baby Walker, Clothes Horse and Laundry Basket?

Pirate DVDs, all manner of designer label and non-label clothing, Electronics and many other things there appears to be a glut, but the more mundane, such as hardware store paraphernalia there seems to be a complete dearth.

Any help, warmly received.

You actually DO need to find your local Tesco (Lotus) store. they will stock all that you require. Not Tesco Express. but a full Tesco Lotus store, similar to back home.

Good luck!

IKEA of course.

Home Pro is ostensibly for the home handyman, but some of the stuff there can be expensive given that in a country where you can hire a handyman for 300 baht a day, DIY is more of a lifestyle choice than economic necessity.

Everyone else. Thanks for the help. I saw that there were Tesco's. But when I saw a youtube video of them, all I saw were a bunch of people fighting over pigs heads.

Ikea - I didn't even consider.

My thanks for your patience.

When we were expecting , I found a lot of really good baby items at the Central Department Store at Ploenchit, This was quite a few years ago but they had the best selection.Just hop the Skytarin up to Ploen Shit and you can;t miss it.

Glad to see the the dream is still alive!!

there is a homepro at chidlom, not far from you at all though its selection is quite poor.

Tesco for smaller household items, ikea certainly has buckets o stuff, but do yourself a favour, go mid week.

Baby items can be bought, not cheaply, at Mothercare Emporium or Central Childom, which is quite near the Homepro.

Verasu for kitchenwares

U can also get things like laundry basket and such from homepro. And they are inexpensive. No need to go all the way to ikea.

Children stuff - no idea. But most department stores have babies section. Prize and quality varies. For less expensive try robinsons. There's one near asoke sky train.

Central and emporium would be the more expensive range. Isetan and some shops near there inside the central world building also have lots of babies stuff from what I recall

Too funny. That's Asoke. Try these:

Index Ekamai

Central Chidlom or Central World

HomePro Ploenchit

Ikea in Bangna is fantastic. Just take a taxi back with all your purchased stuff.

Big C and Tesco are also great places to shop.

Head over to Gourmet Market on the top floor of Emporium (BTS Phrom Phong) or the bottom floor of Terminal 21 (BTS Asoke) or behind the Big C on Rama 4 at "We Love the King" Road. Between Gourmet Market and Villa Markets all over town, they'll have almost all the foods you'd miss from back home. They've been great for me as I learn the local foods and what I like and don't like.

TESCO Lotus is right across Rama 4 from Big C- both in shopping malls. They're both all over Bangkok, but those and the TESCO at On Nut BTS are probably closest to you.

Robinsons department store is near your apartment next to the Westin Hotel before Asok station if you are coming from Nana.

They have baby clothes, strollers (level 2) - grocery and a few hardware items.

Fashion Mall opposite Pratunam has a whole floor dedicated to baby/children's clothing.

Huaykwang is full of small hardware stores that sell just about everything from furniture to electrical items to tools etc.

Very odd. I thought everything on YouTube told the whole story, unabridged. Actually, haven't noticed any pigs' heads, but if you go to the On Nut Tesco/Lotus and look around, probably finding one of those would be a lot more difficult than finding what you're after. Maybe that's why they were fighting over them: short supply.

Spend a few hours browsing around MBK (BTS National Stadium) for lots of cheaper shops selling lots of different bits and pieces. A vast selection of clothing but there are shops selling other stuff that you may be after.
