My ex-wife and i are talking about her coming to visit and maybe getting back togerther.

She has a 10-year tourist visa in her old passport under her married name. Now she uses a new passport with her maiden name.

I think her visa is still valid, if she carries and shows her old passport when she arrives.

Does anyone know if this is correct???

Thanks,

Hmmm, probably OK but sure would be best for her to have the "name change" paperwork along with her when she hits the check-in counter at Swampy, and have it translated to English for when she hits Port of Entry in the U.S.

Otherwise, obviously, the folks looking at the two passports might well assume that they're looking at two different people.

Is she in Bangkok, or near by? Might be able to go down to the U.S. CIS office on Wireless Road. Who knows, they might provide a to-whom-it-may-concern letter that the two passports represent the same person.

Maybe not ok because............The International airlines...especially the ones flying into the USA

are very strict now that all forms of Identification used must match in name.

So if her passport/visa/ticketed name all match she should be good to go with her non-expired visa.

Folks like my wife who have lived outside of Thailand since being married had to send their passports back

to get them changed before being allowed to travel. Even though it was plan to see by the passport photos that

she was in fact the same person.

If you want to see go to a on-line ticket booking like China Air or Korean Air

Try to book a ticket & a pop-up window will tell you this rule. Thanks to the TSA & Patriot act :(

All info must match

PS: Here you go I went & got it from Korean air

As mandated by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA)’s Secure Flight Program, passenger’s full name as it appears on the passport, date of birth and gender information are required for all passengers traveling from/to/via the United States.

Please continue your booking after checking the passenger details: full name/date of birth/gender/passport details (passport number, issuing country and expiration date)/nationality/address in the U.S.

Wife is now on her third passport. First one maiden name, second one married name, second passport has a stamp from the Thai passport offfice on the lines of Previously travelled under the name of ---- in passport number -----. All visas in the previous passport remain valid.

We have collected the third passport and will return to the Bang Na office in the next two days to get the second one stamped as cancelled, done at a different desk from the new passport issue desk. I will post again to let nyou know how it goes.

The visa she has still has 3 years left from original passport.

Cheers.

I don't think that this covers it... The only name that doesn't match is the one on her USA visa.. her passport will of course match her ticket name. She will carry a properly cerified translation of our Divorce papers.

I hope so & good luck to you...It is mainly a USA problem & of course would fly anywhere else.

As it is obvious she is in fact the same person.

Good Luck to you both!

I will try tonite when she gets back from the office, can't see where she has her passports stashed.

Some more info if it's useful, when you go to the passport office in Central Bang Na, on any day the queue is usually two to three hundred long, don't join it, you're not queue jumping, go in the door and you will see on your left a couple of glass fronted areas. They were very helpfull with my wife, she explained the name change situation to them and was given a numbered ticket, different to the masses outside, and some kind of form to fill out. I went for a coffee and 10 minute walk and when I went back she was coming out with all finished. New passport has two stamps on the first two pages detailing past passports numbers and name changes giving a complete paper trail. Total cost 200 baht and all done with smiles. Some other offices should take note of that statement. Will try to e you later with copy of stamps.

Her visa is a 15 year business visa, don't know if that has any bearing on it
