Need Apt Thats Wheelchair Accessible

Hi,

3 weeks ago I was hit by a car and had my knee socket shattered and shoulder broken, both on the left side. I just got out of the hospital but had to give up my apartment because of steps. I cannot use crutches etc. because of the shoulder. I am going to be recuperating about 2 months.

A friend and his family have graciously brought me to their home for a while but I need to find a place of my own. It needs to be either ground floor or in a building that has an elevator that goes to each floor and not in between like the place I'm leaving.

I'm not worried about size because frankly I am spending most of my time in bed.

anybody have any leads on a place that might fit my needs? I know this is an odd request but I'm trying everything to find a solution.

Thanks!

Beb, so sorry to learn of your accident. Most of the condo buildings discussed on the thread about condos in Nimm/Huey Kaew area would fit the bill in that they have elevators and can be entered thru side doors, parking garages, etc, without steps.

But, have you thought about how you're going to handle bathing, dressing, fixing meals, etc? Maybe you have someone to help with this -- great. But, if you don't, consider relocating to Dok Kaew Gardens assisted living facility at McKean Hospital. I know several people who stayed for a couple months while recovering from broken bones. The rooms are like modern studio apartments, you receive assistance with bathing and dressing, and three meals per day are provided. Plus, there are a few other English-speaking residents. It is very close to the physical rehab facilities at McKean Hospital.

They promote it for senior care and they do have a special wing for people with dementia, but many younger people go there for rehab after accidents or surgery.

We had a resident here at the hotel where I live who spent two months there recovering. He thourley enjoyed it. Went out to visit him and was highly impressed with the facility.. Thy have trained medical staff to help you with all your needs.

We also had a fellow who's wife died of cancer spend her last few months there. He has now moved out there permanently even though he is just retired with no disabilities.

There is a lot of acres there that you can get around on when you are more able to handle the wheel chair.

A good place. They also would have access to reasonably priced Physiotherapy at the hospital there. Strongly recomended.

Near the bus station there is a small hotel Pannyer Apartments which has 2 fully accessible rooms with accessible bathrooms. About 400 baht a night. Good pl;ace. They have small aluminium ranps for the shpwer. If they give you one that does not fit ask for the other. They were specially made for each room. If you need the phone number pm me.
