BANGKOK: -- Nichkhun Horvejkul, the Thai member of the South Korean boy band 2PM, has been approached to join Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's upcoming "roadshow" to South Korea, a source said yesterday.

There were no other details from Government House. Nichkhun, who is also a model and actor, could not be reached to comment on the matter.

Yingluck, who recently led her government's first "roadshow" to Japan, is set to make her official visit to South Korea from Saturday until next Tuesday (March 24-27). She'll be aiming to restore confidence among South Korean investors following last year's flood crisis. The PM also is scheduled to attend the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul with leaders from 51 other countries. She'll meet with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak for discussions on bilateral trade, investment and cooperation on agriculture, military, labour and tourism.

Yingluck is also expected to meet top figures in South Korea's public and private sectors.

Thai PM says Seoul summit good opportunity to prevent nuclear terrorism

BANGKOK, March 22 (Yonhap) -- Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that next week's nuclear summit to be hosted by South Korea will present a good opportunity to help countries around the world prevent the threats of nuclear terrorism.

Yingluck also said that, in a joint interview with Korean correspondents on Wednesday ahead of the second biennial Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, Thailand wants to learn South Korea's know-how and skills on water-management projects following devastating floods that pummeled the country's industrial sector last year.

"All nations should cooperate with each other to prevent nuclear terrorism," she said, days before heading to Seoul to join the summit.

Representatives from 58 nations and four international organizations, including 45 heads of state, will attend the summit.

On Saturday, Yingluck will hold summit talks with President Lee Myung-bak in Seoul for discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exchanges.

U.S. President Barack Obama launched the first summit in Washington two years ago and the Seoul summit is aimed at working out more concrete actions to lock down loose nuclear materials and to address the question of how to keep nuclear materials out of the hands of terrorists.

Thailand was severely hit by the months-long floods last year, with many plants in the industrial capital of Bangkok forced to shut down operations.

Yingluck said she has a keen interest in South Korea's massive project that aims to revitalize the nation's four major rivers to control flooding and save water.

"During my visit, I hope that South Korea will share its experience and technology on water-management projects," she said.

In an effort to regain the confidence of foreign investors following the devastating floods, the Thai government cut corporate tax rate this year to 23 percent from 30 percent.

No problem.

Just raise VAT tax rates so everyone can pay their fair share equally.

Can someone please tell me why TV decided to headline this "Thai PM Yingluck Needs Boy Band Singer To Approach South Koreans"?

Yet again the "invite" to the Boy Band Singer/Actor (aren't they all) is based on a "Source" and how does this equate to Yingluck "needing"

him to attend? Will the South Korean Official visit collapse without him?

Or is it just a cynical ploy to generate hits with a "controversial" headline?

hope her strategy works.

So.Korean govt. is still pretty hardcore...to date. I remember first going to S.Korea in 1975 wow, if you had long hair the

airport police authority would arrest you and virtually give you a crew cut, also the midnight curfew martial law.

Things may have changed somewhat, but the hardcore kimchee power still exist in many politicians.

Madame Look&Feelgood is setting a trend! This is what we have to expect in future travel of politicians:

USA, Obama – on tour with Lady Gaga (the genuine one not Sarah Palin)

Germoney, Merkel – appears with an Octoberfest Band

France, Narkozy – well, he brings Carla anyway

Russia, Putin - accompanied by the Leningrad Cowboys

Australia, Julia Gillard - teams up with Dame Edna

UK, David Cameron – will not travel without Mr. Bean

Greece, Lucas Papademos – Street Busker with big hats

Well it appears from the intelligent debates above it's working. Every single one makes a comment on the boy band singer (apart from one misplaced Buchholz sarcastic post about vat? - I'll take that back, it's a sarcastic post against the government, of course, but it does have something to do with the OP. However he does revert to form with his other "comments") the basis of which is an unattributable "source" and not one comment about the content of the trip.

Whither now TV? Sponsorship from Gossip Star magazine?

I think it's a great stratagy.

We all know that world famous bands can make or break anything they decide to. Look at the "Feed the world" or the many other large scale world spread charities that have influenced the world.

Musicians have voices !!!!!!! and The world listens !!!!!!!!

I mean if Bob Smith stood up one day and said "please send food to the tsunami victims" noone would hear him however if Bob Dylan says it the planes are loaded.

I do however think she might have a better chance with "Boy George" in Korea. Just saying.

They want him to act as Yingluck's English translator...

and to think he only has an American high school diploma to Yingluck's American Masters degree

Is this her trying to sound intelligent?

Or maybe she's trying to glean information BEFORE Thailand builds it's first nuclear reactor so that when it blows she can blame it on terrorism (although there isn't any here, of course), and not poor quality craftsmanship....

-mel.

Yet another non news story with a sensationalist headline. Thai PM invites singer to join roadshow to South Korea becomes Thai PM needs boy band singer to approach South Koreans... what a load of BS.

IMHO it's a good move on the part of Yingluck. It makes perfect sense that you'd invite a Thai national who happens to be a well known, clean cut, public figure in South Korea to a roadshow to... err... South Korea. It's not like she's asked him to become the governments Nuclear Physics adviser, it is after all a PR stunt.

It's hardly a new ploy that's unique to Thailand or Yingluck. Western governments are continually using celebrities to promote government campaigns with good results.

Yet again, why all the objection over such a non news worthy issue? It's clear that anything posted on the TV News section which references Yingluck or PT gets met with the same rants regardless of content.

"Yingluck has scrambled eggs for breakfast" becomes "Yingluck demands that downtrodden cook murders chicken offspring and has them battered repeatedly and then cooked alive".

It would be funny but for the outcry that follows each sensationalist headline... really lessens my opinion of my fellow ferang here who should be educated enough to read past the BS.
