cowslip
As I understand it the Non immigrant "O" visas (multiple entry 12 month) are as Feb no longer available unless for retirement or marriage (at least in the UK) - is this true? "Category “O” (this type of visa does not allow employment without a valid work permit) Residing in Thailand Evidence required: copy of house deeds. or Visiting family living in Thailand Evidence required: Suitable Birth/Marriage Certificate showing relationship. or Volunteer work for a recognised charity Evidence required: Suitable letter from charity. or Visiting Thailand as UK Pensioner Evidence required: Copies of bank statements showing receipt of pension." Mario2008
Old news. Hull will and other consulates will no longer issue based on visiting friends in Thailand. Visiting family is stil a reason as far as I'm aware of, with proof of family relationship.

Mario2008
10K what cuurency in the bank? For retirement the qualification for a 1 year extension of stay are: being over 50 and 800,000 baht in the bank in Thaland OR an income of 65,000 baht (can be from abroad) OR a combination of yearly income and money in the bank, totaling together 800,000 baht. To be issued a visa, the requirements are likewise. (money doesn't have to be in Thailand)

Lifer
You can get a work permit with a non-O visa based on marriage. You can not get a work permit if your type O- is based on retirement.

Lite Beer
Yep. They would have to find another Visa that they qualified for. Without knowing any personal details it is impossible to offer an opinion.
