Hi, question for my brother, apparently the thai embassy told his GF that she needed proof she wasnt married for a tourist visa, which she got. Now they are saying my brother also needs proof of somekind along with the proof of earnings proof they met etc.

We have both looked on the official sites and searched through T.V.com but cant find what the Thai embassy is talking about.

Does anyone have any idea what other proof will be needed for the tourist visa for his GF?

Thanks

Hopeless,

I presume you mean the British embassy in Thailand, rather than the Thai embassy.

The difficulty is that the documentation deemed necessary is more or less at the whim of the visa officer as the circumstances of an application may be such that evidence of marital status might be relevant. However, I can't see how such proof assists the visa officer in deciding whether the applicant will leave the UK at the end of the visit. Furthermore, if your brother has never been married, he won't have any documentation to show that he is single.

Ultimately, it's up to your brother. He can either argue the toss with the embassy over the relevance of such documents or he can supply them. It does strike me, though, that this might be a case of placing bureaucratic hurdles in the applicant's way in the hope that they eventually give up and don't pursue the application.

Scouse.

If he is offering to support and accommodate her during the visit then he will need to show that he is capable of doing so without recourse to public funds. So, he will need to provide a brief description of the accommodation being offered (number of rooms, how many people already living there etc.) along with a letter of consent from his landlord if he rents, or a mortgage statement or similar if he owns. He will also need to supply his last 6 months bank statements and pay slips ( or latest SA assessment if self employed).

He will also need to show a relationship with her. So, phone records, e-mail headers etc. Photos of the 2 of them together as well, if he has any.

He should also include a brief covering letter detailing their relationship and the reason for the visit.

Sorry, I've never heard of this. If he were applying to marry her in Thailand then he would need to sign an Affirmation of Freedom to Marry, but that's for the Thai authorities, not the UK. Are you sure she hasn't misunderstood?

Thanks for the replys fellas, good info indeed.

Yeah I was as baffled as you are, when I looked into it there was no need to prove you are single - only for marraige. Perhaps the language barrier may have something to do with it.

But the fact is the embassy in Thailand told him thats what he needed. Something is amiss :o

Are you sure the British embassy told him? Or has he had this via a third party?

Maybe the way the question was worded made them think he was asking about a fiance visa?
