Hi, have been reading these forums for a while but have never posted. Everyone seems quite knowledgeable and friendly and so I've come to you for what I think might be an easy answer. I'd ask the secretary at my school, but she is as useful as a wet cardboard box. In fact I did ask her and all I got back was 'you have to leave". I'm sick of dealing with muppets so i've come to the masters for help.

My non imm b work visa expires in a month (May 8th) and i was wondering what I have to do in order to get a Thai tourist visa? Do I have to leave the country and go to an embassy in Loas or somewhere and if so can i leave and come back by land? Would the tourist visa be good for only 30 days and then could I extend that (so i've heard) for another 2 months?

Sorry to ask but I have heard way too many stories about what I have to do and my head is a bit frazzled from all of this. I just want to find out the best thing to do (in case I don't have another job lined up that is). I do want to stay here a bit longer.

Thanks for any help that you guys can offer.

cheers.

I'm in the same type of situation here.

I finish my job in BKK on the 20th April, thus losing my Non-Imm B and WP. I start my new job in CMX on the 2nd May.

Will I need to do a border run to get a 30-day tourist visa before I can go and apply for my new Non-Imm B at my new job?

Cheers.

Yes you can go to a neighboring country like Laos and get a tourist visa, or two 60 day entries. Each entry can be extended at immigration for 30 days for 1900 Bhat. This effectively gives you 6 months in total. Like you I am between jobs and have done this while waiting to see if I have a new contract.

Hi ColabaMumbai,

Thanks for your help. I"m still a bit confused though. Could you be more specific? Sorry this is all new to me and I don't want to make any mistakes. I'm not sure what you mean by '2 60 day entries'.

So, do I have to go to Loas and what would be the best way to get there? I've heard I have to get a Laotian visa first? Do I have to go to the Thai embassy in Vientienne to get a tourist visa, or can I just turn around at the border and come back. yes, I would like to be able to reup for a few months at a time once I come back.

cheers again for any help smile.png

Can't your new employer give you the letter and documents needed to get a non-imm B before you leave on 20 April then you can come straight back in and be ready to start work on 2 May with no need to leave and come back again.

That would save the new employer the expense of flying you out and back in and loss of work time which he'll be paying for while you're on a jolly.

I will have no contact with my new employer until I start in May. They're not spending on anything! (Except new visa fees).

I'm just going up to CMX soon after I leave BKK (I'm quitting my current job), and would want to sort

out a visa down here rather than traipsing about from the north (I've done CMX-Vientiane a few times, not a fan!).

You either go to a Thai consualte abroead and apply for a tourist visa, good for 60 days and extendable with another 30 days or you leave the coutry and come back without a visa. Without a visa you would get 30 days by air and 15 days if returning by land. With a toruist visa the way you enter Thailand doesn't matter.

thanks for the help lads. Ive got a clear idea now of what i have to do. I assume that getting a bus to Loas would be the easiest then? Do the authoraties ever give anyone a hassle for not having an exit ticket when entering on a tourist visa? Might i have to be by some cheap air asia ticket from phuket or krabi to penang or something like that?

cheers.

The ticket out is normally not checked by immigration, almost nobody at a land border has a ticket out.

Anyway, a ticket out is only required for people without a visa.
