April 4, 201214 yr Which should I get? Do they all use the same maps? The gal at the store said the more expensive ones (NOT the 1250) had better maps, but I think they are all the same.... I just want something reliable that will get me from point A to point B with the least amount of BS. Thanks!
April 4, 201214 yr They all use the same map. Difference would be the features, you can try to compare the specs at Garmin's website.
April 8, 201214 yr Not sure if you already bought one, but here are my experiences. I own the Garmin Nuvi 310 and the Nuvi 1460, both have pro's and con's. The 310 is smaller and great for traveling. Battery life is fairly decent, but doesn't really matter if you are using it exclusively in the car, rental or otherwise. Pro's: Responsive touch screen. Portability due to smaller size, 3.5" diagonal screen. Decent battery life, if you want to walk with your GPS. Con's: Older technology, longer GPS satellite acquisition. Older technology, more prone to satellite blocking in big cities with tall buildings. The 1460 has a bigger screen, more features (Lane assist): Pro's: Bigger screen 5.0" diagonal, more info on screen with Lane Assist. Newer technology than 310, fast GPS satellite acquisition. Con's: Poor battery life. Very poor. Poor touch screen response. 310 has better touch screen experience. The newer GPS's in the market now should have the latest technology for GPS Satellite acquisition, reducing the "synch" time. I would go and "play" with a demo to see which of the ones have the best touch screen response, at least one you are most happy with. Get to know the features thoroughly, as they will come in handy at times! The lane assist is very helpful, although available it may not cover all of areas. Good luck!
April 9, 201214 yr Lane assist really helps in Bkk at the big junctions about 6500 for the 2465 - still can't pronounce a lot the the Thai names of roads but it makes you smile
April 9, 201214 yr I got the 1250 and have been very happy. One of the main reasons I like it so much is it is small enough to take it out walking -- it is a good size to do both walking and driving i think, on the small side for driving maybe. I wouldn't hesitate in buying the 1250.
April 18, 201214 yr I bought the 1250 recently in Bkk in the Gadget shop, I use it on my motorbike and so far it's been really good, fast and accurate, the software is the same as the others it just has less features, for example "bluetooth" etc. However I have mounted it on a holding device and arm I also bought from the shop and it does a really good job.
April 19, 201214 yr I got the 1250 and have been very happy. I wouldn't hesitate in buying the 1250. Agree on that. I just came from BKK and I used the 1250. If you need just to get from A to B, you do not need any extras. Except, that the newer models tend to keep the satellite lock a bit better. Now, there is a new model announced today - nuvi 40, price: 3,990 THB. It has a bit wider screen (4,3") and I would suggest go for this one
April 19, 201214 yr I have the 1250. Only con is that you can't load up a map of where you've got, get altitude maps/graphs info etc. For going from A to B, then getting there and wanting to find a place to eat/sleep/get gas, it's perfect. If that new one is out and only 4000thb, go for that.
