Layed down Malay grass two weeks ago at Issan home. Grass on shady side of house is on a sand fill base and is doing great. Grass on sunny side of house is on a plain red dirt base and not doing well with fair bit of brown, 'dead' grass. It was 40 degrees day after laying grass and sunny side browned that day. Been watering twice a day.

Question: why is sunny side struggling?

1. Is it the sun?

2. Is it the plain red dirt?

3. Did hot day burn it?

4. Will it just take some time for it to come back?

5. Do we need to re-lay sunny side of house?

Any advice/experience appreciated.

You are not watering it enough.... four or times a day would be better just to keep moist... don't worry about watering it in full sun... just do it !!!!!! ..... even if the locals jump up and down telling you not too!!!!

1. Is it the sun? Partly....

2. Is it the plain red dirt? unlikely but some organic matter might help hold moisture

3. Did hot day burn it? Yes! It may come back still,

4. Will it just take some time for it to come back? depends on watering it... while it is setting roots...

5. Do we need to re-lay sunny side of house? Maybe!!!

Any advice/experience appreciated.

You could use some shade cloth, just to shade the area while it's taking root.... (use the green coloured one. Tesco usually has in garden section)

It will take about two to three weeks to set root enough... then water according to heat of sun... morning would be better until established...

You may find the areas in shade will tend to brown out if it dries out too much... some organic matter would have helped... not sure what's available in your area... here on Samui, coconut fibre is what we use. (depends on local soil too)...

Hope that helps!
