Annual Military Lottery in Sattahip District

SATTAHIP:--On Thursday at the Sattahip School, 21 year old Thai Men entered the lottery to see if they would have to undertake two years of compulsory military service.

For those who do not decide to enter the military when they leave school, it is compulsory for them to enter the lottery which on Thursday involved over four hundred men, however some of them decided to enter the military leaving just over one hundred places still available which were chosen via the lottery system.

For those left to choose, any transsexuals who had completed a gender reassignment procedure or other men who had disabilities or were severely overweight, were excluded from the draw. There were some tense moments for the families of those involved in the lottery who also attended and watched as they pulled out either black or red tickets.
