Hello everybody

My wife and I will be travelling from Nong Khai through Laos (Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Luang Namtha) to Chiang Mai via Chiang Khong.

We are considering hiring a car as opposed to using public forms of transport.

1 ... Is it possible to hire a car in Nong Khai, drive through Laos and leave the car in Chiang Mai. Does anybody know of a company that would do this if possible.

Or

2 ... Could we hire a car in Vientiane and leave the car at either Luang Prabang or Luang Namtha.

Any helpful "constructive" advice would be appreciated.

Or

3 ... Is there a bus company in Laos that operates a VIP service similar to that of the Green Bus Company in Thailand?

Thanks

Yes to all of the above, your choice of options, depending on how much you want to spend. I've used this outfit before, not cheap, but good service: http://www.europcarlaos.com/

There's other options, do a Google for: car rental laos

Alternatively, buy a copy of the Vientiane Times newspaper when you get there and check the classifieds.

FYI, I'd recommend using a driver rather than self-drive, not expensive, and decreases your liability to about zero in case of an accident.

The above info is good, the other alternatives are Laos ford city which rent rangers for $30 a day not sure if 1 way rental is available. [email protected]

www.vpscarrental.com I used this company years ago, no problems but cant remember prices.

There are a few more places I have used but wouldnt reccommend unless you are local.
