I notice a couple of members state and agree, that a PM job is 24/7/365.

It's a bit hard to be the PM and be in 2 places at once. The Thai Gov and Opposition Gov knew a long time in advance that the PM would be attending these important meetings overseas, as dates would have been set for all PM of the other countries to attend as well. What would you have done in her place?

I agree the dates and times of the meetings were known well in adcance. To my knowledge there is no law on the books that stating a deadline for this charter rewrite decision. Therefore as PM she should have made the decision to pospone the debate until she returns from the overseas meetings. Surely she has that authority.

They specifically extended this session so that they could debate the reconciliation laws. Surely they wouldn't have done that if they knew the PM wouldn't be here.

Why do people claim Thaksin was an elected premier removed by the coup and no one objects? Thaksin dissolved the parliament half a year before the coup and since then was only an interim PM. He run in elections in April 2006 but everyone else boycotted them and he and his party couldn't form the parliament and elect him as the PM so he didn't actually win. Later on, before the coup, those elections were nullified and on top of that Thaksin's party was found to be involved in electoral fraud (as someone said earlier he became a political criminal but not yet convict) and in 2007 Thaksin along with 110 other party executives were banned from politics for five years. Which part of that makes him elected?

Democrats took the power after IMF terms were largely agreed on in 1997 and just had to follow through because no one else, nor US nor China, was going to bail out the country. That was also clear well before Dems formed the government. Now people who put the country in that situation and ran around the globe asking for money before finally bowing down to IMF put the blame on Democrats for the terms. These people have no shame.

In the latest stint in government Democrats had to lead the country through the world worst recession in almost a century and through massive political disruptions when red shirts took over central Bangkok. They also had to give away many powerful ministries to unsavory coalition parties who had no ministers better than nurses and mamasans to offer. Considering this situation they did rather well as Thais in general do not remember 2008-2010 as the years of economic crisis, unlike the rest of the world.

Someone earlier said that Thaksin's company made 117% profit while his competitors made a lot more. That is a misdirection - Thaksin as the PM should have never been allowed to keep any company as "his". The moment you agree that it was "his" company is the moment you also admit that he was never actually qualified for the PM post to begin with.

Finance Ministry holds 51% stake in FIDF and recent events showed in practice that the Finance Minister has complete control over FIDF financial obligations - when all FIDF debts were transferred to the Bank of Thailand despite a chorus of objections and without asking FIDF for an opinion.

The Finance Minister is appointed by the PM, of course, and it also happened that FIDF chairman as well as BOT governor in 2003-2004 was the one and the same Thaksin's appointee as well.

Someone also said that things like these are just opinions that are inherently equally valuable. Misdirection again, as following this logic means that if if you decode monkey's farts into some coherent thoughts it should be considered as a valid opinion. It isn't.

What we see is people skirting their responsibility before the rules they agreed on prior to entering the game that is Thai politics, particularly regarding conflict of interest, what we see is people refusing to accept due punishment .

Now the country could be dragged into a referendum on the amnesty for Thaksin but that is also a misdirection - people won't be asked to state what they think about Thaksin, it's not a neutral quesiton, people have vested interests in this, they will have to make a choice on what will happen to them in the future as both Thaksin and the "yellows" are promising to unleash hell if the result doesn't go their way. In a sense it's not only Thaksin that is holding the country hostage but Abhisit and his supporters, too, as they argue that popular vote can't be used to override the laws and promise to rise up against this abuse.

Alternatively, why wouldn't they extend the session knowing our dear PM hasn't anything to say anyway and without knowing what happened can plausibly still say "I don't think so, no one told me".

Thakskin was good for Thailand, the coup was not good for Thailand,

Maybe you could explain how T was good for Thailand? And how was the coup not good for Thailand?

Regarding the coup, how does it go... "all that's needed for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing"

I remember Thailand being in a scary place before the coup, T slapping billion baht lawsuits on all his opponents if they criticized him, as well as having the attitude that once he was voted in no one could question him for 4 more years. Democracy? Changing laws to directly benefit his businesses, and his offshore company 'Ample Rich' HELLLOOO???

Oh yes he was untouchable at the time, a coup was certainly the last resort of a few good men.

May I suggest a trip to Cambodia to see where Thailand may be today if the coup hadn't happened. The people have been systematically bullied into submission, they have no rights, the govt. takes their land as it pleases, resettles them in shacks without basic amenities, and private security firms beat people who demonstrate (more recently firing an AK into the crowd and killing 3!!!), top few have so much money that it's just sick. Is this what you want for Thailand? If so then bring back T, absolve him and let him carry on from where he left off. How people can either not see this or think that it's ok is just beyond me.

Ask the G'kid about the 24/7/365, he started this when someone remarked our dear PM looked and/or answered her mobile while attending the cremation ceremony for the King's elder sister.
