Hi Folks,

So, how are Islands in the sea created if not by earthquakes?coffee1.gif

Tut tut - anyone would think that Boxing Day is named after the Boxer Rebellion.

Fortunately there's no excuse for boo-boos anymore.

I'm not at all certain that earthquakes create islands at all. Just check Wiki to find all the numerous reasons - to enlighten and inform you just a tad there's this for starters. Hope it helps.

Islands can be created in many ways. Either they are connected (or were once connected) to the continent that they are located near, or they arise through the ocean floor during volcanic activity or other disturbances in Earth's crust. Islands can also be formed by the activity of coral. A continental island-as the first kind is called-may be a high part of the continental margin or extension of land that is usually present underwater along a coastline, or may have been separated from its parent continent by a watery passageway carved out by the sea. Great Britain and Japan are examples of continental islands. The islands of Hawaii, on the other hand, are examples of oceanic islands, because they were formed by volcanic activity on the floor of the Pacific Ocean some 40 million years ago.
