prophet01
Is anyone able to confirm whether or not the powers that be are proposing to alter the traffic flow direction through Patong. I was informed, during a conversation with an aquaintance the other day, that Beach Road will be one way North to South, Rat-U-Thit 200 Bpee Road will be one way South to North and that the current ripping out of the walkways on Beach Road is related to this proposal. Rickster
I've no doubt it is happening in the very near future......Should have done this first time round when they introduced the one way system, makes total sense when driving on the left
Old Croc
It was all going to happen after last high season. Too many high powered interest groups. Don't hold your breath.
prophet01
Appreciate the replies but, for the time being at least, the answer to my question is no.
geriatrickid
AAnd I thought the sidewalk changes was to allow for more parking. I think that's the intent as the tree has been left standing (In front of the new banana complex.) Sadly another tree was blown down after last weeks big windstorm. (You should have seen the metal roofing getting blown abour from the Banana construction site. It was scarey. The wind was so strong the water got through the windows in our place and I came home to wet floors.) sorry for the tangent.

DaveHKT
Does anyone (including the authorities) know when the reversal of the one way system is going to take effect?
Jimi007
Does anyone (including the authorities) know when the reversal of the one way system is going to take effect? LOL! Apparently not... It's been almost 8 months since the last news on the topic. They're too busy with flooding and crumbling roadways now to worry about re-routing the traffic. KarenBravo
I think it has been quietly forgotten about because the tuk-tuk mafia were against it.

Tuk Tuks rule ... always phuket is a self-governing part of Thailand with its own laws? seems that no authority can curb tuc tuc "mafia" and get them away from the streets. They lay under him all parking and space for other traffic. Insert the military with sharp-charged weapons and clean up once and for all.
noob7
phuket is a self-governing part of Thailand with its own laws? seems that no authority can curb tuc tuc "mafia" and get them away from the streets Can't? Looks like, you do not know some facts: There was once a Patong TUK TUK Association President, who thought about, it would be not from disadvantage, to 'go politics'. He became the Major of Patong, about 2 decades ago. Because of some not wanted 'conflict of interest', he passed the President Job to his son. The Major also owned a very nice Disco and Restaurant place, on top of the hill, between Patong and the Le Meridien Hotel. The Major got re-elected, again, and again. Only once, someone else won the election. But they found foul play, about this win, short after. So the former President of the Tuk Tuk Mafia is still the Major of Patong. Thinking about a "Special Administrative Region ", for Patong or Phuket, now. His son is not only still the President of the Tuk Tuk Mafia Corporation Patong, he's also the owner of the famous Hollywood Disco, that never closes the doors at 2am. The Tuk Tuk Association is renting the road spots, where they park the Tuk Tuks and the Black Taxis, from the Municipally. There is no need, to rule or curb them! All of this is very public. Only a bit bad to follow, cause many medias publishing only the given names. With the family names, it would be easy to spot, who's a relative of whom!
