Lite Beer
Surat Thani residents warned to brace for risks of natural disasters during next 4-5 days SURAT THANI, 15 April 2012 (NNT) – Residents in southern Surat Thani have been warned to brace themselves against risks of natural disasters during the next 4-5 days. Surat Thani Governor Theerayuth Iamtrakul said on Saturday that all district and state offices in the province have been asked to issue warnings to locals, particularly those who live in low-lying plain, near hill slopes and waterways as well as coastal areas, to beware of sudden flood, gusty wind and high waves from now until April 18th. Mr. Theerayuth also asked officials to inform operators of fishing boats and passenger ferries to navigate with extreme caution during the next few days. The warnings followed an earlier forecast by the Meteorological Department, which stated that an easterly wind will bring wet weather to Thailand's southern region during April 14th-18th, when thundershower or heavy rain can be expected in parts of this region. The weather bureau also suggested that accumulated rain shower in the South has added to the risks of flash flood and mudslide in certain areas until next Wednesday. -- NNT 2012-04-
