Looks to me like Ukraine is giving up territory that it knows it would have lost anyway. In return, Ukraine gets quality personnel to use to humiliate Putin. It is causing Russians to become aware that they are at war with the Ukraine and that Russians will suffer. Russia has had logistics issues since day 1 of its invasion. Going further into Ukraine lengthens the supply lines and makes Russian forces more vulnerable to Ukraine's new air capabilities. The Ukraine of today is different than the Ukraine of 6 months ago. It has newer and more advanced ordinance with which to defend itself. Putin is using Russian conscripts to defend against the Ukraine attacks, and Russian 18, 19 year teenagers olds do not want to die for a place they care nothing about, other than to look at the pornography that was churned out of Kiev pre war. -

Looking to buy a new SUV - any recommendations?
That's why I was suggesting a used Volvo. Top of the range low mileage XC90, 321 bhp for a decent price within the OP's budget. Agree that in the current market new Volvos are overpriced, but they are great cars, great spec, not just an "OK" SUV. . A good second hand one with a warranty is worth considering. My XC 40 has a lovely interior, good responsive 2l turbo engine, Harmon / Kardon 13 speaker sound system and more safety tech than you can shake a stick at. A year or so ago I was driving down Sukhumvit at night, I indicated to move to the right lane and immediately my car made warning noises, swung me back to the middle lane and told me it had avoided a collision. At the same time a motorbike went speeding down my right hand side with no lights on. The tech saved his life. Two days ago I was stopped waiting to turn right. All of a sudden the seatbelts pulled me and the other occupants tight, hazard lights went off, and parking brake was applied - it detected I was about to be rear ended - thankfully the car missed, but only just. My friend spent way more on an Audi Q series. Better looking (especially on his 21 inch rims) but lacking in tech, inferior sound system, no self parking, no active safety to speak of. Anyway, would I buy another Volvo today? No. Are they fantastic and well specced cars? Yes. Just that today you can get better value for money with the Chinese brands. I do love the EX30 but I wouldn't buy one for the money now. -

No wonder any sane man is hiding from recruiters it's virtual suicide. Poorly trained recruits contribute to loss of Ukrainian territory on eastern front, commanders say. Some new soldiers refuse to fire at the enemy. Others, struggle to assemble weapons or to coordinate basic combat movements. A few have even walked away from their posts, leaving altogether-AP The recently conscripted Ukrainians are a far cry from the battle-hardened fighters who flocked to join the war in the first year of the full-scale invasion. The new troops lack even a minimal level of training, commanders and soldiers from four brigades defending the Pokrovsk area said. They described having to plan operations with infantry who are unable to shoot targets and uninformed about basic topography. Some recruits simply lacked faith in the battle plans of their superiors and walked away from prepared positions.
