Kanaga:

Don't like rugby. Never have done. Watched the Wolves game which was very good. Shame they couldnt do that all season. Anyway, I've just got home and don't intend to spend it arguing with daft old men so goodnight all.

StreetCowboy:

What makes you think we're old? By your criterion, I'm probably only middle-aged, or medieval. I still feel like a young man... or rather, a young lady

SC

Kanaga:

I wasn't referring to you as being old. As for pastiche, the biggest clue was when he wrote believe it or not before I became old I was young.

...

StreetCowboy

More to the point, I have every confidence in Wolves eliminating the handling errors, and winning something again this year, whether it be Challenge Cup, Grand Final or the League Leaders' Shiield. Although last year, I think they combined the best defence in the league with the best attack in the league, running out over a hundred points ahead of their nearest rivals in points difference. They have a long way to go if they are to do that this year...

You missed a cracking Heineken Cup semi-final. Ulster were leading by ten points, but right up to the end, Edinburgh looked dangerous; and sure enough they scored and converted, but after the final hooter...

So that's it for sport in Scotland for this season, bar the MacTavish Cup. I'm not even sure Eurosport will be showing it...

the rugby league kicks off next week, on the long road to Wembley, August 2013...

SC

I was referring to the Football club. Sorry.

You mean the association football club, rather than the rugby league football club? Sorry, my apologies. It is so easy for people to get the wrong end of the stick on the internet, though that would more likely be shinty than football... Well, I am afraid you have had a duller night than I, then. It really was a cracking game from the Halliwell Jones, and the Bulls can go back towards the Orient proud of playing a good game right to the end, even if their Wembkley dream has died for another year.

I don't know where you get this concept of "dirty old man" from...............my lady throws me into a shower about 12 times a day!! I may be old but I'm anything but dirty coffee1.gif

ps. Is 46 old?

I think we just have to accept the judgement of others, and soldier on as best we can.

You're only young once, and rarely when you have the sense to handle it, but by the time you're old you should be able to suffer fools of any kind... or at least any kind that you have been yourself...

Well I am a young man. I saw my first cut off jeans of the year today..biggrin.png

The lassie must have been around sixteen or so....I cast an appreciative glance...and smiled....and walked on....

You see Kananga we are not all young or old simply by chronological age but also by our attitude and perception of life.

Don't forget that...

I'm just not morally fit enough. I should try to build up my moral fitness. I might start abstaining from ...

... what would be an easy one to abstain from?

Hard drugs? Necrophilia? Conservative politics?

I suppose it should be something I enjoy at the moment...

maybe young ladies in skimpy underwear.

From now on, I am NOT going to be a young in skimpy unerwear

Straying perilously close to the original topic, by way of a diversion from our entertaining excoriation of dirty old men, most of the Thai overseas workers I have met have been self-employed consultants. I did once meet a professional specialist, who worked in a massage place in Dubai. She had a number of compatriots with whom she would associate with when she got the chance, but their working week was quite long - 13 days, or possibly longer, and on call for 12 hours a day or more. Anyway, she seemed to have a reasonable degree of freedom to come and go as she pleased, but she did not get rich, and she's now taken a new posting in Seoul.

I heard that when it comes to massaging egos the Koreans are significantly smaller than the Arabs. Probably easier to get her mouth round the language as well.

Glad you admit that dirty old men do exist though.

You might gain more credibility with me had you not edited my post to find an out of context phrase to which you could make a smartass reply. That is against forum rules, although perhaps not for those with an assumed persona of the precociously clever young iconoclast.

What I said was:-

When I was at school, the phrase "dirty old man" had connotations much more serious (ie a taste for prepubescent girls) rather than men who find young women attractive.

If that definition has now changed, perhaps, as you suggest, I need to go back to school because I do frequently find myself looking at women significantly younger than I am and thinking that they are attractive. Does that fact mean, since I am over 50, I qualify for your definition despite doing nothing more than registering a natural reaction in my brain?

Please comment on this and say that I am a harmless dirty old man and be prepared for an analysis of how our human brains respond to external stimuli and whether reaction to attractiveness in the opposite sex is unwholesome, unnatural or "dirty".

My apologies, it was not my intention to take your comment out of context, and exactly the same answer I provided previously applies here too. However I sadly do have to accuse you of taking what I wrote out of context. Nowhere did I call you a harmless dirty old man. You just made that up to try and give your argument some sort of basis in reality. You're not really one to talk about credibility I'm afraid old chap.

OK You called me a harmless old man with dirty thoughts and I paraphrased that as a harmless dirty old man. There may be a nuanced difference there but I cannot see it - perhaps my advanced age has resulted in a loss of cognitive ability.

However I hate to prick your bubble but it is possible to look at feminine beauty without "dirty thoughts", if your definition of dirty is lustful. If that is your reaction to an attractive young woman it might say a lot about your psyche but it is not a common reaction; believe it or not before I became old I was young and so I have more awareness in this area than a purportedly young man.

You need to learn that, in order to be the enfant terrible, of TV there has to be more to your thought process than tossing around ill-formed generalisations and insults. I suggest that you research a little basic psychology....

The key difference here is someone who has thoughts and someone who acts those thoughts out are two very different things. If one thinks of murdering someone they are not an old murderer. And that my (very) amateur psychologist is the difference between a harmless old man who has dirty thoughts and a dirty old man (who acts them out). With regard to whether the thoughts you have of what you would like to do to young women are dirty or not is merely a difference in a moral standpoint.

Oh look, my bubble is still intact.

You are either obtuse or a fool; not everyone who looks at an attractive woman has thoughts of "what you would like to do to them". Since, in my case that does not involve anything that even a puritan such as you purport to be could object to, it appears that that you are assigning responses to me that are your own. When this "(very)amateur psychologist" studied that subject at university it was called transference.

Without setting eyes on you, I believe that you have created a cyber persona for yourself where you would like to be a seen as a figure of controversy and challenge to the established order; normally that is done with radical challenges to the status quo, in order to create acceptance of previously-held taboos. In your case it is the absurd position that men after a certain age (50 apparently) should retire into some haven devoted to celibacy because otherwise they corrupt society by being interested in the young women around them.

Hardly in the same league as Plato, Aquinas, Voltaire, Hume, Kant or Sartre or the earth-changing Marx and Engels but maybe on a par with the early Ben Elton and Alexei Sayle

Perhaps you need to research some social anthropology as well as psychology

I have at no time referenced our disagreement to Thailand, so I am not talking about sex tourism. Young prostitutes with older men may be distasteful to you but is irrelevant - they are prostitutes and have chosen that occupation, without coercion in many cases.

Enjoy your cyberworld an alternative reality may suit you best

After glancing through your first few paragraphs of waffle I came across one line of relevance which both surprised and amused me. It was this line they are prostitutes and have chosen that occupation, without coercion in many cases. Many cases? Not all? Which after dissecting the rest of your irrelevant drivel is exactly what (and all) I was saying all along. You have been going off on so many tangents trying to hold it together I doubt you even know what you are arguing about.

As for the rest of your incorrect assumptions I can only laugh at how much you have let your emotions control your thoughts and end up so far off the mark from what I actually said you could be in another star system. Here's some friendly advice, stop jumping to conclusions and spend a little more time actually reading and only commenting on what other people have written and less time making up what they haven't. It will make you look less foolish each time I put you in your place. You let your emotions get the better of you and it's not a pretty sight. Especially your opening gambit in your last reply where you call me obtuse (real classy BTW) for not being psychic. Comedy gold. cheesy.gif

]Why was "obtuse" really classy, did you have to look it up? Stop behaving like the precocious young man - we both know that you are not.

I cannot see why you think you have put me in my place since you never answer the key question of why you think that inter-generational relationships are in some way "dirty", a word that you have failed to define.

Do you really think that the prostitutes in tourist areas of Thailand are comparable to the drug-addled whores of some European cities who have no other option? Or the underage girls who are trafficked into prostitution and kept in locked rooms?

As I have implied repeatedly, you know little about human society and the many variants that exist therein and how they might have developed; I would suggest that you start with Plato's Republic and his thoughts on marriage but I don't believe you will because of your inbuilt reluctance to stay with the argument.

I suggest that the successful development of the Modern Human has encompassed many differing moralities and, unless you are some kind of intelligent but non-intellectual religiionist you should realise that yours is not the only truth..

Try to answer relevant points rather than use arrogance as your defence in your posts.

But that's not really cool, is it? And you're the wannabe smart guy.

Right then, lets sort out your baseless assumptions one by one.

Why was "obtuse" really classy, did you have to look it up? I was being sarcastic as you had resorted to petty insults. Never heard of sarcasm? Look it up.

I cannot see why you think you have put me in my place since you never answer the key question of why you think that inter-generational relationships are in some way "dirty" - I don't and never said they were. Stop making things up.

Do you really think that the prostitutes in tourist areas of Thailand are comparable to the drug-addled whores of some European cities who have no other option? No, I never said they were or made that comparison. Again, another assumption you just made up.

Or the underage girls who are trafficked into prostitution and kept in locked rooms? Since when were we talking about underage girls in locked rooms? Again yet something you have just made up. (in my opinion out of desperation).

I suggest that the successful development of the Modern Human has encompassed many differing moralities and, unless you are some kind of intelligent but non-intellectual religiionist you should realise that yours is not the only truth. Never said it was.

Try to answer relevant points rather than use arrogance as your defence in your posts. Relevant points? The ones I've just commented on that you have made up? Relevant? cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

But that's not really cool, is it? And you're the wannabe smart guy. As opposed to the wanna be dumb guy? Of course we all want to be smart, who doesn't? Wait, don't answer that.

What is interesting to note is that you only quoted a small portion of my entire reply, (something which you got very upset when I did to you) and even then you failed to even address the one question I put to you. If you're ready to stop making things up I'll continue the discussion, but if you insist on making things up I'll have just have to keep pointing it out to everyone. And no one wants to be made to look foolish by someone much younger than they are, precocious or otherwise. So choose your baseless made up assumptions and petty insults more carefully in future.

Lesson over.

Just don't have a pop at the Baby Boomer generation for having kids with rented women 30 years their junior with whom they have nothing in common bar the "housekeeping"....

If you do, you'll soon learn the meaning of delusional old men...

I wasn't having a pop at anyone here, I just mentioned dirty old men in reference to dirty old men in general. Although it would appear that when one mentions the words 'dirty old men' a certain section of the forum's contributors seem to take it very personally indeed.
