I am German citicen and my 7 years old daughter carries Thai passport. I am not married to her mother. I have 1 Mio Bath in my bank account and I own a Condominium in Patong. My age is 52. Can I obtain a one year visa or better? As I am tired of having to go abroad every three months.

Assuming that you are in Thailand on a non=immigrant O visa, at your age you can apply for a one year extension of stay at the Phuket Immigration office. You need a letter from your Thai bank evidencing that you have at least 800,000 Th baht in the account. At your age and based on the information you provided here, you should be eligible for a one year extension. You need to follow the same procedure each year for  3 years. After 3 years you may be able to apply for a residency permit. When they give you that one year extension you will need re-entry permits if you intend to travel outside Thailand. A multiple re-entry permit is also obtainable from Immigration for 1000 baht. The present cost for the one year extension is 500 baht. It is rumoured that cost increases are likely in the future. That you own a condo in Thailand is likely to indicate that you have commitment to the country, so take documents with you indicating owner- ship.

Dr. Pat Pong: I thank you for all your priceless info on all topics related to immigration. I recently received my 1 year, multiple entry visa: a type B.

I followed your suggestions to the letter and it 3 days I had it in my mailbox.

Once again, Thanks!
