Guys, I haven’t had a smart phone before so know little about them. Now both our phones are at least nine years old so I could justify changing one.

I’ve had a look around and am seriously considering the Samsung Galaxy Note. From what I think I understand from sellers, it seems that there are two models, one suitable for DTAC and TRUE, the other one suitable for AIS and once you have chosen provider you can’t change . Is this correct and which model is suitable for which supplier please?

The phone is 16GB internal memory but you can add up to a 32GB chip, does having the extra chip slow down web browsing, some sellers say it does and some it doesn’t. Some say AIS is better and some say TRUE is better.

The web use would mainly be when travelling around Thailand, picking up e-mails and booking accommodation etc. So which supplier has the wider coverage? My house phone is TOT so ISP is also TOT. Is it possible to use the house WIFI, or hotel WIFI to access the internet via the phone? If so which suppliers have this access in their package please.

Thanks

Your understanding is mistaken. Any Samsung Galaxy Note is quad-band 3G so would work on AIS, DTAC, TOT, CAT My, TrueMove H. There is but a single model, it is unlocked and you can use it on any 3G network here.

Expanding the memory capability will not slow down browsing.

The SGN is WiFi capable.

You can use WiFi, 2G or 3G to access the internet. 3G might be preferable when outside of WiFI coverage?

Do you need to make voice calls? Send SMSes?

TrueMove H might be the best solution? But we would need a lot more detail from you to really make an accurate asessmenet and recommendation.

Thank you very much ... the information re which network it would work on actually came from the Samsung Shop ... something about 850 and 900. Yes it's is actually a replacement for my wifes phone. She is on True 200minutes and doesn't usually go much over if any. We rarely send SMS, if have to tend to use SKYPE.

She is on True now so I guess much easier to stay on it ... someone showed me a TRUE smartphone package of I think 350mins talk etc for 649Baht and 100Baht off for the 1st 6months (also have a 449baht package that might do). Was suggested to go to Digital Gateway in Siam and lookat/buy the NOTE.

Might as well get a 32GB chip for it at the same time ... whats a rough price for that please. Also is there an App available for continuous camera recording and wipe off ... thinking of using the camera looking through the front windscreen ... worth a try anyway.

You should be looking at TrueMove H, and not TrueMove.

Do you currently have TrueMove? Pre-paid or post-paid? I suspect so, if you want to go with TrueMove H you will have to port your number, if not buy a new TrueMove H SIM.

For pre-paid typically you might buy a monthly package of minutes or even just pay as you use, and then layer a data plan on top of that. Some data plans include some widely available WiFi for use when you are away from free WiFi at home or in a hotel and perhaps outside the range of 3G.

You can check the Android Market, now known as Google Play, for video recording apps.

Hey thanks

I see that the NOTE is Quad band ... so all the phones advertised at 21000Baht will be Quad band and will run on True or AIS? CAN YOU GIVE ME CONFIRMATION QUICK PLEASE as I want to get a phone today.

FEVER on 0816309666 have them for 20990 and are very close to us ... just concerned that it's not a full blown NOTE

I am going for True post paid as that is what we are on now probably the 649 package.

Thank you for your help

I cannot confirm that every shop is selling genuine Samsung product. You need to determine that to your own satisfaction. I am not familiar with FEVER so cannot comment on their reputation.

What I am saying is that any Samsung Galaxy Note, GT-N7000 is quad-band 3G. If you have any further concerns or reservations, and given you are committed to True, then just buy the box that says it works with DTAC/True and feel relieved.

(I believe that N7003 version - grey market - gets pedaled here at a lower price, ~ 17,000-ish. It should probably be avoided unless you have budgetary issues.)

from Wiki:

The following performance variants of the Galaxy Note have been made available:

N7000 - The original version, with a dual-core 1.4 GHz Cortex A9 processor

N7003 - A lower-powered and cheaper version, with a single-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8255T processor with an S-LCD screen initially available in South Africa.[24]

SHV-E160K, SHV-E160L, SHV-E160S — LTE version with higher-speed communications ability, available exclusively in South Korea.[25][26]

SGH-I717 — LTE version released exclusively in the United States and Canada.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm still getting this 'it's for use on DTAC and TRUE or AIS' and I need to specify which. Two sellers the morning ... off the list you gave ... are saying the same thing. They say the phone is the N7000 and 21000Baht. I certainly don't want to pay 22900Baht for the same phone if I can help it, just to be sure or it breaks down.

As you say if it works on TRUE then it's OK. Thanks
