I have been to Thailand six times now and have a friend who has worked in the same restaurant out there for six years running we get on like house on fire and I would love for her to visit for two or three weeks then return as she has spoken to her boss and cannot have any more time off than this am just concerned that she will be refused a visa she has a work contract that she can show and pay slips I'd card passport ect and I'm more than happy to book her return flights if anybody could give me any advice or has been through a similar situation that would be great many thanks

The rules are a little tighter now but I had no problem 6 years ago, athough I was working here and was my wife but I know so many that have taken girlfriends and wifes without a problem. As long as you can show that you have been visiting here and had a relationship over that time there shouldnt be a problem. You may need to provide evidence, photos, emails, phone call logs etc. The main concern of UK Immigration is she cant support herselfe and will not return, so if you have a return flight booked and she or you can show financial funds why would they refuse. I believe now she will need to have a TB xray that costs about 2,500 Baht...You get many guys come here for 2 weeks meet a bar girl and want to take her back, thats why they get refused...

You do not even need to have a relationship, you can be friends.

Read the Border agency website for what is required, the biggest stumbling point is the return to Thailand, but if she has a job and a letter from the company saying she will be given time off, then i should be a doddle.

No TB that is for settlement, a tourist visa does not require it.

And NEVER book flights before the visa is granted....

First read this pinned thread "UK Visa Basics" that you will find on the opening page of this forum.

The above post contains a couple of inaccuracies.

1.Do not book flights before she has been issued a visa.

2. There is no requirement for a TB test for visits to the UK for 6 months or less.

The fact that she has a job, contract and pay slips will be a great help.

Just had my partner's second UK visitor visa approved last week. Both trips have just been for 3 weeks. Provided plenty of supporting documentation - letters of invite from family and friends, bank statements, photographs, travel itinerary, details of relationship, etc etc.

Wasnt sure about TB.....as the main concern of immigration is will the alien return....its kinda catch 22, to prove return you really need to show a return ticket. It wouldnt be good if the OP was turned down as they thought his friend wasnt going to return as she didnt have supporting travel documentation...its a hard call, .

A job with a contract, pay slips together with a letter from the boss, house and land ownership certainly are more tangible reasons to return than an airline booking, which can be cancelled and refunded (if booked with a major airline such as Emirates).

Sorry but it's not a hard call at all, the advice not to purchase fights before a visa has been granted is spot on, and is advice that the UKBA also gives.

Thanks for all the help it's just what I needed il will go on the uk boarder agency and have a look has anyone ever used an agency after starting this topic I got an email from one saying the could get her a long term visa over here and one for me over there but she don't want to stay its just a holiday but me getting a long term over there caught my attention Oort is it best to keep away from these types of things many thanks

Long term is usually settlement.

Do the application with her it is easier, I have never used an agent and have 5 successful applications for my wife and mother in law

90%+ of visas are approved.

If you take your time and do the application properly shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck thumbsup.gif

Unless the visa agent is recommended to you or you use an agent associated with this forum, I would suggest you do not use them, particularly "cold call" agents.

I have PM'd you regarding this, as unless the person concerned is a forum sponsor, such action is definitely against the forum rules.

Even for a sponsor, it's not an approach I would feel comfortable with!

Not wise to buy ticket before visa granted, if required funding cannot be shown return ticket ot not she will not get the visa. Return makes no difference than a single, but eithr way should not if anybody has any common sence be bought before. i think if ticket was submitted as avidence of return the visa section would consider it a bit presumtious.

I have had my ex-gf (no longer hence ex) visit UK.

As the gentlemen say above, don't book ticket before VISA.

I used photos, correspondence (proving I had a relationship, as it was gf), a letter from me (saying I would cover all costs while in UK, explaining my job etc), and a letter from her job saying she could get 2 weeks off, and how long she had been working (naming job).

Sometimes it may depends on the girls job, less likely for someone with a professional job not to come back, less certain for bar girl, but can't confirm that.

But you do not need help, just dot is and cross ts.

Just a quick question, we are about to apply for visa for my thai lady, she has land in her home village, do we need to get the paperwork translated?

Thanks for your time

Posted

Official guidance says that all documents not in English should be accompanied by a translation certified as correct by the translator.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that this is not always insisted upon.

Your choice, but I have always had Thai documents translated; better to do it and not need it than not do it and need it.

Just for the record, it wasn't us

My gf is with me now in London. Has been here a month and will go home in late June. I basically promised to pay for everything and make sure she left on time, with her reason to leave being that we would want future visas. Everything went smoothly and we were lucky first time. She was even lucky enough to attend 2 football matches with me....

She works as a domestic cleaner and is a poor rice farmer's daughter, so has no assets or strong ties in the UKBA's eyes.

My advice would be to be completely honest in the application and to provide a letter explaining everything and promising to finance her life and provide shelter etc.
