Karen general boosts security after war of words with Chalerm

The Nation on Sunday

BANGKOK:--The Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) has beefed up security around the residence of its commander-in-chief, Maj-General Saw Lah Pwe, after Thailand asked Myanmar for help in arresting him.

The DKBA leader, also known as Na Kham Mwe (Mr Mustache), is on Thailand's list of 25 most-wanted suspected drug dealers.

DKBA officers have been deployed to guard his military camp, which is opposite Tak's Phop Phra district.

Earlier, the group closed 12 border checkpoints under its control. According to military intelligence sources, the Karen general has mobilised troops and told them to be ready for combat along the border, reportedly in preparation for a "military retaliation" against Thailand for blacklisting him. Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung earlier made provocative remarks against the Karen leader.

The general has reportedly allowed the 12 border checkpoints to be reopened so that mine operators and Thai farmers can work in their mines and plantations. However, few people have ventured to cross the border due to safety concerns.

The Nation should publish this "top 25 most wanted drug dealer list." Does it really exist? What's the basis of it? How can there be any credibility to it without knowing whether it really exists and who put it together and what the criteria were?

Thailand needs to keep out of Myanmar's internal problems, she has enough problems of her own.

What a joke....Thailand's drug enforcement agency is only trying to take the focus off of the "real top 25 drug dealers" which are top Thai police and military officers in reality. They provide the money and protection to smuggle drugs accross the border using disposable mules. Those who dare to snitch die, it's as simple as that. You get caught you go to prison which only puts them in touch with career drug dealers establishing more connections on the outside setting up more networks. Na Kham Mwe is heavily armed and any fool that dares to go after him is a dead man including their families. Going after him will only cause more suffering for innocent Thai's and cross border businessman. If you look at the assets of some of the top police and military officials it will show you that they are making more money than what their salaries provide. TIT wai.gif

Said the same thing myself on another thread.

If it does exist then why isn't Chalerm going after targets closer to home first... unless they are too close to home perhaps?

And if the list is a fabrication why doesn't the government deny it?

By going after a foreigner in his "war on drugs" Chalerm avoids stepping on the toes of someone who might enjoy a more intimate relationship with DL in Dubai which would have an adverse affect on the DPM's career.

Chalerm has always been a loose cannon. Since his selection to the Cabinet, he seems to have developed a larger ego and/or he has access to more and better spirits. Several of his tirades and proposals of late seem to be fueled by old john barleycorn.

It might be we have a front row seat to a crazy drunk, enjoy the show or better yet, find a place where you will be out of the flying sh.t storm when it comes.

"Lerm" (the Thai word for a herpes outbreak) is a parasite. He is one of the most heinous men in thailand.

Absolutely spot on--he, and his sons, come-uppance is soooo long overdue--unfortunately we may have to wait for his next incarnation as a 'malang-saap'.

Chalerm plays a very serious game here in diplomatic terms. Major General Saw Lah Pwe has an army a detail that seems to have escaped Chalerm, His diplomatic wrecklessness could well cost the lives of Thai soldiers or farmers along the border. He who takes the ear medicine would be wise to ensure he does not employ any house staff from Myanmar in the near future. Who knows the Karen General could do us all a favour soon. Anyway enough of this prattle, I am sat in a bar in Qatar at the moment deciding if I should pop along to the Four Seasons and see if there are any conspicuous meeting going on with businessmen and ssssh! you know who. Isn't she coming today and she never called to arrange a meeting, I am gutted. Ah well, barman another pint of ear medicine please!

Chalerm must have run out of ear medicine, again.tongue.png
