Modelling In Bangkok

Featured Replies

I have been in Bangkok just over six months now teaching English and have read this site on occasion but until now never joined.

This is my second time in Thailand but the first was a two week holiday in Phuket and Bangkok where I noticed many western models in magazines and billboards.

Why I have chosen not to live in the U.K. where I was born is a long story I don't want to get into but I am Arabian/British (my father is from Dubai) which I realise may be agaist me as may not be white enough to get modelling work here, however I am not as dark as a provincial Thai girl.

I have plenty of modelling and a little TV experience, but where are the agencies in Bangkok for foreigners?

I used to do TV comercials....you can contact K.Wan 06-316-4488. You will have to go to the modeling agency and they will take some pictures of you....good luck!

There are a ton of dodgy modelling agencies in Thailand, and many of them mostly pitch East European models working for a pittance of Khao San Road tourists.

The legit agencies you should consider are:

Mode Models - any of the bookers will help you 026167691Suttisan

Red Models - Anusak is the owner, and a nice guy, also makes comp cards 013321207 (I don't model anymore, but this number should still be good to go) - Ari

There are a few others that weren't bad when i was in this game

Jim Modelling Rama 9

Model Story Silom

one other one whose name I just can't remember....

I would pick Mode over the rest though.

The skin colour is not so important; models photograph better a bit darker. Face shape, height and figure more important. Get your book in order (if you have one), get some comp cards, and get stuck in.

Best work for foreigners are TVCs; I have given a lot of advice on this and been accused of overstating income; however the recipient of the advice (as opposed to

the peanut gallery) is running on what I suggested...it all depends if you have fashion looks, commercial looks or are not quite up there (in which case there is plenty of extra work, but that pays worse). Except swimsuit/lingerie if you have the figure for it, Thai models don't do that.

The number of foreigners willing to work for peanuts illegally has damaged the market a lot compared to a few years ago; however with a good attitude, good looks and theight agency you can still make decent money. There are a ton of agencies out there, and more than 1/2 are not to be trusted. Go for the big ones, and you'll do better.

PM me if you want to know more.

Best of luck

S.

Ahh, that explains a lot. I used to live around Ari, and I noticed there were always a bevy of stunners wandering around the place. Now I know why......

I was wondering if there is a minimum required height for a model in Thailand? In my home country it is about 175 cm - if you're shorter, it's almost impossible to find a job, because you'll look short on the stage (most of models here do both cataloque and shows).

Just curious :o

what if you aren't the model type but want to try tv commercials? where would you go?

Theres alot of work, but theres the casting couch

Post a resume and a photo on www.thejobpro.com its a portal for expats where many model agency advert positions

They are more difficult to get into but they do pay considerably better. Many of them share the same agencies.

I did a beach shoot last week for a Thai photo storybook which was interesting though very hot and am waiting to hear about another but it's not something I think I can live off here, they don't crop up often enough. There's more regular work at the resorts now that it's high season so I may stay south and stick to what I know.

Thx again, esp to smb for your help. :o

I'd say women about 170cm for runway min unless going for the cute look as a kid or something.

For acting/film/shoots, can be a bit shorter than this, down to 160cm depending on your figure and nature; but realistically this is a profession suited to 168-175cm tall people.

Regarding casting couch, that is a non issue for women here; it is a far bigger issue for men than women in Thailand!
