Hi I was wondering if anyone can advise me on the procedure for obtaining a work permit. Yes I know they are usually obtained by the employer but in this case I think I will have to advise them on how to obtain one for me. I am on my 4th Non O (marriage visa). My husband is Thai.I have been asked by our Nayok and one of the local schools if I would like to teach English at the school.I was a teacher for 25 years and have a Bachelor of Education plus have taught in Language Schools in Australia. We live in a very quiet part of Central Thailand where there are NO other Westerners so even when I applied for my Yellow Tabien Baan I think it was a first for the local Amphur. I realize I cannot work without this WP and would like to do the legal thing and get one. Also if I volunteer what sort of visa do I need ??? thanks

You should be able to obtain on your current marriage extension of stay (I assume you are not making 90 day border runs but here on one year extensions of stay). Labor Office is who you need to contact and they will need paperwork from school and you - someone doing may be able to provide details or Labor should be able to tell you what is required.

Thanks Lopburi3 for your info ....funny that you should mention this 90 day visa run ... like I said I have been on my Non Imm O (marriage visa ) for 4 years. When I first applied for this visa.. a one year multi entry in Sydney they told me that I would have to leave every 3 months even though I was married....so thats what I have been doing for 4 years and every year applying in Australia for a new visa...its only recently that I spoke to a Thai girlfriend who has just got married to an Indonesian man that I was told by them that I could report every 90 days. As I live 3 and half hours from Bangkok I havent been to Immigration in Bangkok yet to ask them about this. ....will this effect the WP??? really appreciate your help....

You must leave every 90 days on a multi entry visa - only if you and husband visit immigration with marriage paperwork and apply for one year extension of stay using TM.7 form and paying 1,900 baht would you be allowed to remain in Thailand and just make 90 day address reports to immigration. It is a simple procedure and better than doing for work as it will continue even if work ends. You can do each year for total cost of 1,900 baht but if you travel outside Thailand you will require a re-entry permit at 1,000 baht for return to the same permitted to stay until date. You should do this during the last 30 days of any non immigrant O visa entry.

I'm in the same position, married to a Thai. I obtain a ONe year non O every year from my LOCAL immigration office. Is there one nearer to you than Bangkok? Look on line.

Once a year for 1900 baht then visit the same office every 90 days to renew, no cost. It is much simpler and cheaper to do it this way.

I did my 90 days this morning, took 3 mins.

You obtain a 12 Month Extension of Stay. It is not a Visa.

You report your address every 90 days. You do not renew anything smile.png

Thanks everyone again re this info...will go to Bangkok and see Immigration re this extension of stay...have all the correct info plus tabien baan etc so should be simple...really appreciate everyone's input...plus saw the school today and they are doing everything re the work permit...it is a Government school so everything is above board and they will get it done /approved quickly. I think the teaching position is the one that was talked about a while back in the news where the Thai Government is looking to recruit Native English Speakers to teach in Thailand. :-)
