Where Are The Good Spots?

Featured Replies

I've just moved into a house north of the city near the inner ring road and the river. I am getting acclimated to this area (I really like it) but I thought I would ask for some tips and recommendations from those more familiar. Its easy to get into the city from here but I am also looking for some spots closer. Considering the areas around the Mae Rim Road (107, north of superhighway), the Maejo Road (1001, north of s-h), or the river roads (either side) I would appreciate any tips for any of the following:

- good Thai food

- good Western food

- noodle and fried rice type place

- beer and pizza type place

- music bar

- bakery

- specialty food stores of any kind

I would not normally be interested in going all the way up to Mae Rim so would be looking for places fairly close in the "slice" defined above north of the s-h. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Me thinks....why didnt you do a good recce of the area you now live to see if it was suitable for you or your family.

Have to say for example you dont buy a house then think where the nearest school is.

But if you are in an outlying area, get on a bike or in a car and drive around; you may realise very soon you could have found a better spot.

if you dont have transport, check these forums, hundreds of threads on food, bars, pizzas. but refer to the city area as a rule

You could start at Meechok Plaza, also known as Rimping (the name of the major supermarket there). It's a shopping/dining/services area about one kilometre north from where the 1001 Highway leaves the Number 11 Superhighway.

Big supermarket with lots of specialty items (not cheap though); decent restaurants (very good Korean, two Vietnamese, at least one Japanese, one English fish & chip shop, many Thai varieties); a friendly pharmacy where the lady speaks excellent English, a vet, an insurance broker, a clinic.....and lots more all in one compound. On Monday and Tuesday nights a large chunk of its parking turns into a night market.
