Fried Frog Legs?

Featured Replies

Anyone? Earlier this afternoon tagged along with a local for lunch, guess what i have? Taste surprisingly great, taste is similar to chicken with a texture between shrimp and chicken

What did they do with the rest of the frog ??

Hope it is not like shark fin soup and there are countless legless frogs hopping rolling about out there.

Some preperation include the whole frog....gutted and cleaned.

Foodland sells them sometimes. I had tried them long time ago in Europe. Nice depending on the way they were cooked. I don't think I would care to buy/cook them at home and I don't know where they get those big frogs from.

I tried fried frogs in a fancy restaurant in Phnom Penh , it was delicious . Prepared by a french chef. Cant be better than that.

I raised frogs a few years ago, very yummy.

laugh.png Oh yes, Frog legs. Remember that well.

Also you can get baked Frog (cleaned and gutted naturally) at certain Thai restaurants in Bangkok.

Tried baked Frog and baked Frog legs many years ago with three of my friends and three Thai women about 20+ years ago on a night of boozing it up in Bangkok.

The girls did the ordering in Thai...we three farangs didn't know what we were eating until the food arrived.

Actually was very good....although I'd have to admit I was rather drunk at the time we ate.

But it was an enjoyable time.

Incidently. so were the girls....but that's another story.

And those large Frogs used to be farm raised outside of Bangkok and sold for food.

Yes, that is a clasic cartoon.

Believe it appeared in the old National Lampoon magizine in the 70's

Think it was by a person named Gahan Wilson...kind of an eccentric 1970's type person.

you are pretty totally wrong (as far as Thailand, Cambodia and Viet Nam is concerned where the whole frog is eaten). Bangla Desh is the biggest exporter of frog legs. the legs are "harvested" in a most disgusting and barbaric way. hind legs are ripped off the live frog and the frog is left to die.

Old news, had frog legs when I was 7

Where are the dog lovers now ??

I know some of it is (or used to be) eaten.

Back when the Thais still rendered pork fat for frying, I was introduced to deep fried, crispy frog skins. The in those days equivalent of American potato chips? I was in Isan working for a week and they tasted so good I, in my non-thinking naive youth, order 1 kilo of the dried skins to take home to fry in Bangkok.

Oooops.....you can imagine how much 1 frog skin weighs. Needless to say, I had enough to give everyone on the trip more frog skins than they wanted. Luckily they were too polite to refuse.

Aside: it may be that the flavor is no longer that good what with everyone using cheap, easy to get vegetable oils.

On the village market yesterday: living frogs on offer. To be able to stuff them in the bag and make sure they don't hop off: legs are broken.

Disgusting for us. Normal procedure for Thais.

Frog curry is very common in Thailand.

If it moves Thais will eat it.

frog curry can also be very tasty. tried it 35 years ago in Bangkok and liked it. when living in Florida i had quite often crumbfried froglegs.

Chef McDang has come out strongly against what he considers is the perversion of traditional Thai cuisine. When castigating a somewhat famous non-Thai chef recently, he used frog legs as an example. He contends that frogs are smelly, so you cannot stir-fry them as this chef does. You have to boil them in galangal or grill them.

I am certainly not an expert it the preparation of frogs. And I was a little taken aback while watching Taboo last night where they showed the making of frog "smoothies" in Peru. But I guess the Thais have certain ways to prepare frogs which are different from other cuisines.

BBQ or shake and bake works for me

They chop it up and it's called Larb Gob....

I had frog curry here a few years ago, the taste was fine but the frogs had just been chopped into 4 pieces so loads of bone and bone splinters.

frogs are one of the very few things that I would never eat.
