May 19, 201214 yr I just went to Laos around May 1 and got a single entry non-o visa.. When I entered Thailand I was stamped for 3 months... I was just notifyed my grandpa died back home in America.. So all of a sudden it seems I have to take a trip out of Thailand for his funeral.. I'll point out I am an American and I am married to a Thai girl.. ---The first thing I want to know.. Is there anyway to continue with my non-o visa when I come back to Thailand? Or do I only have the choice to get a new non-o visa while I am in America? ---The second thing I want to know.. Is there anyway to get my wife some sorta emergency visa in 1-2 days so she can come to the funeral with me? We have been in the process of getting her the CR1.. Currently at packet 3..
May 19, 201214 yr Author sorry for the double post, I was just thinking I should of posted this here and don't know how to move a topic..
May 19, 201214 yr If your return trip to Thailand will be before your current three-month permission to stay expires you can get a single-entry re-entry permit before you leave for the USA and on your return to Thailand will get an arrival stamp with permission to stay until the same date as your current permission to stay has. I don't know about an emergency visa for your wife. Perhaps you should ask about it in the forum "Visas and migration to other countries" or, given the urgency, call the visa section of the US embassy. The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
May 19, 201214 yr Chris~I'm sorry to hear about your gf. if you have the time...when the sun comes up...the visa pros will hook you up. again...really sorry. mp Edited May 19, 201214 yr by mamypoko
May 20, 201214 yr 1. You have the option to buy a re-entry permit to keep your current stay alive but would require 1k fee (or more at airport) and you have lost trip time. For most people it would be best to obtain a new visa when in US (can be done by mail if needed) - be sure to take marriage certificate and copy of wife ID card/home register with you (although may not all be required). 2. Depending on your time-line for stay in Thailand a multi entry visa should be available while in the US allowing one year of up to 90 day stays. 3. Not sure what packet 3 of CR1 is but suspect immigration to US and that any other visa for entry would not be likely or many would falsely be using death as a shortcut (as probably no easy legal way to confirm status); but as said you should contact Consulate.

IR1/CR1 is an Immigration type visa to America for relatives.. We are apply for the visa and almost at the interview.. Although at this time if she can fly to America for the funeral it would not be for any kind of immigration as we must return to Thailand in August to have our Thai wedding ceramony and reception which is already planned (We are already married though, on paper).. I have multiple trip itineraries for my some of my family that will be flying to Thailand in August for the wedding.. As some kind of proof.. Anyway, Thanks for confirming about the re-entry permit
May 20, 201214 yr That is what I suspected and the reason a visa for entry is highly unlikely to be provided - those caught up in the wait sometimes attempt to enter the US and do it there rather than continue the waiting game so they are keyed to prevent that - once they see intent to immigrate to the USA visiting visas are not likely to be approved. But if near approval nothing hurt in asking - it is really a case of making the official believe she will indeed return for the final approval and your planned festivities may help in that regard.
May 20, 201214 yr Hate to say it but between death and the funeral can be a long wait, it took about a week in my case when my Stepfather died, but luckily enough (for myself and my wife) we had already applied for a visa for her, as we were informed he would not last that long. Also a grandpa is not a close relative so maybe they will say no, but continue with your other application. Sorry for your loss
