Marrying Your Thai Gf In The Uk Or Europe

Featured Replies

Hello folks, I would like to know what is the visa process if you want to Marry your Thai gf in the UK. I would like to know is it possible that my Thai gf can come to the UK and then we go to another county in Europe to get married? Is there a special visa required for both the UK and the country we want to get married in?

She is currently with me in the UK and we also have a schengen visa to visit Spain next month.

This is her second time visiting me in the UK.

Thanks in advance for your replies

For the UK there is a special type of visit visa known unofficially as a marriage visit visa, but she can marry whilst in the UK with an ordinary visit visa.

You will need to give notice to marry or register your civil partnership with a registrar at a designated office. See How do you give notice to marry or register a civil partnership with a registrar? Note that in England and Wales you both have to attend the office in person but in Northern Ireland and Scotland you can do it by post.

I don't know about other European countries.

Do you hold an Irish passport ?

If you do then if you marry you are entitled to apply for an EEA Family permit once married the applicant must apply in Thailand.

The applicant will be issued with a 6 month family permit which you convert into a 5 year residents card in the UK upon arrival. we submitted six applications in May all received the permits processing time is 5 days only.if you are a dual UK/Irish national its currently under review however they are still being issued ( the permit is free) & family members such as children can apply.

Please pm me for further details if you require a free consultation.
