What Are The Prospects Of Work In Thailand?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I currently work for an IT company in a senior role. I am regarded as highly technical and my background includes working in telecomms as well as IT for the past 7 years. I would be interested in some form of comsultancy role or ######. I have vast knowledge of technologies such as VMware, Citrix, Cisco among others. I have a 1st Class honours degree and a few professional qualifications.

My question is what chance would I have of finding work in Thailand and how much would I expect to earn?

Thanks.

Prob a better chance in Sing or HKK.

Try your vendor contacts in the region, they usualy know whos looking

Better to be paid out of sing or hkk ...moneys better

Yeah seems Thailand is a bit behind at the moment. Money is not really the issue though i'd be happy with 30k-40k a month but maybe thats even too much for Thailand...guess i'll stay in the UK.

You will definitely be earning much more than that if you get a legitimate job here - the minimum amount a foreigner is legally allowed to earn is somewhere in the region of 60,000 Baht a month (can't remember the exact figure, also it varies from nationality to nationality). I don't know what those technologies you listed are but they sound quite specialised, which means you've probably got a pretty good chance of finding work here.

Also, what was that censored out word after consultancy? Good luck anyway.

No it isn't. It just have to to equal or higher than the sum you specified in the application for the WP. There is only a minimum if you want an "extension of stay". If you're ok with visa runs every 3 months, no minimum salary required.

Well, I guess it was ##########... or maybe ########? :o

Well, that's what I meant really by "legitimate job" - i.e. a job with a work permit: and to get a work permit you need to be earning a certain minimum amount... don't you?

Well, that's what I meant really by "No it isn't (required)". :D And to make it clearer let me say "No you don't (need it)". :D And if this is not clear enough: No No No you don't need to earn 60K in order to work legally :o . When I first got my WP, my salary was merely 35K. Labour Departement was perfectly happy with that, and so was Immigration. One can even get less than that, and still be legit.

Mr. G, What kind of work are you doing in Thailand ?

I've no idea what the ##### was and I can't remember what i typed! maybe ###### or something...not sure why it was hassed out, very wierd!

Anyway forgot to mention i'm married and my wife is Thai she still has her Thai passport although shes also a British citizen now. Not sure if being married to a Thai Wife would make getting a permit any easier or would I even need a permit to get permanent residency??

Mr. G, What kind of work are you doing in Thailand ?

Managing my own company, which means I set my salary. Naturally didn't want to withdraw much at the first months when the company is making nothing... Why the bold agressive fonts I wonder? :o

Assuming that you are still living and working in Blighty why not have a go with some of the big job agencies advertising overseas positions.(I am not in your game but the work is def.there)

The big advantages are of course if you can get a contract the company will usually supply all the little things that make life worth living...r/t air tics/accomodation,car/driver/"per diem" etc.and they will also do the donkey work on the visa-works permit applications. :D

From personal exp.recon LOS aint too bad(work/visa wise) its places like V/N,all Africa and most of the middle east that you need suitcases full of cabbage to get the right stamps in the book :D

Admit at the moment LOS isnt the flavour of the month work wise (Dubai,China,Japan,Kaggi,Iraq,Sudan...all seem popular and loads of offers)but the jobs are there if you look.

I even had the chance of one recently at Lam Chabang (inspection)..but ....naa....hung me boots up a few years ago and now want an easy life and just visit the But & Ben over there a couple of times a year.....however ...you never know. :o

so...for a start ....expat n/work-intern-NES-overseas-jobs-recruitment-jobs are UZ..... :D .
